Laughter Galore on Saturday in Batavia
Laughter galore is on tap for Batavia on Saturday, Oct. 12 when the Batavia Access Toy Distribution Committee hosts its annual “Comedy For Access Toys” at the Moose Lodge, 1532 S. Batavia Ave., starting at 8pm. Doors open at 6:30. Food and drink will be available for purchase from the Moose Lodge during the show. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the door. The evening’s activities include a 50/50 raffle and silent auction with all proceeds helping support the Batavia toy program which will distribute toys to needy local families before Christmas.
Starring as the feature comedy act at this year’s show will be WGN radio personality Patti Vasquez. She is recognized for her performances in her own network show, “My Life Is A Joke” and programs on the TBS Network entitled “A Very Funny Show” and “The Lipstick Mom Tour.” Host MC for the evening will be Batavia’s own Dottie Fletcher who will provide comedy with a local flavor.
Last year more than 500 families from the greater Batavia community received toys provided by the Access Toy Program. The toy distribution program in town was initiated more than 55 years ago by the Batavia Rotary Club and Batavia Fire Department, then assumed by the local Access Committee 25 years ago. Money raised from this year’s comedy show will be used to buy new toys to be be given to families in need identified by local social service agencies.
Information on Heroin Abuse
Parents and community members are invited to take part in an informational presentation on heroin abuse from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Batavia Fine Arts Centre. "This is a growing issue with teenagers and it’s time to arm ourselves with the knowledge to notice what’s happening!" organizers said.
