The Aurora man reported missing Sunday "has a pending trial in Kane County for allegations of criminal sexual assault involving a family member."
Authorities say the 85-year-old man reported missing Sunday is facing criminal sexual assault charges and may have fled to Mexico.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday afternoon that it is continuing its investigation into the whereabouts of Enrique Ruiz, but offered additional information that the Aurora man "has a pending trial in Kane County for
allegations of criminal sexual assault involving a family member."
"The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the possibility that Ruiz fled to Mexico where he owns property," the press release said.
The Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out the possibility that Ruiz did walk into the Oakhurst Forest Preserve and is still missing, as reported Sunday. A daylight search of the preserve is being conducted with assistance from several search and rescue groups and K9 teams, the release said.
Ruiz is described as 5 foot, seven inches tall, 150 pounds, with gray hair, wearing blue jeans a blue jacket and an unknown color sweater.
Anyone having information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
