Update: Fire Causes $120K in Damages At Batavia Motorcycle Repair Shop

Many bikes were damaged in the incident, according to the Fire Department. Here's what happened.

A fire in Batavia on Thursday caused an estimated $120,000 in damages, mostly to motorcycles in a repair shop, officials announced Friday morning. The fire occurred at Diesel's Service and Repair on the 800 block of East Wilson Street. The Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 6:52 p.m., according to a press release. Two residents stopped into the Fire Department's Station 1, located at 800 E. Wilson St., just down the street from the incident. Upon arrival, there was heavy black smoke showing from the building. "Fire was located in the shop area, which had many motorcycles in for repair and custom design bikes," the release said. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Batavia Fire Dept. Takes Out Commercial Blaze Thursday

Traffic was diverted while crews tended to the fire.

UPDATE: The Batavia Fire Department has released more information about the Thursday fire. A fire broke out at the site of a Batavia business on Thursday, the Batavia Fire Department said. The fire occurred on the 800 block of East Wilson Street near Wilson and Raddant Road. Fire crews rushed over at about 7 p.m. from their station across the street, 800 E. Wilson, according to scanner reports. Heavy smoke was observed coming from a commercial building, an early report said. Firemen were still fighting the blaze at 7:16 p.m. Then the blaze was mainly extinguished by about 7:30 p.m., according to the Fire Department.
