Batavia Garage Fire on Thanksgiving Ends in $19,000 Damages

A vehicle was also damaged in the blaze. Here are some photos from the scene.

Editor's note: This post was updated Thursday evening with more photos of the fire and the Batavia Fire Dept.'s work to extinguish it. A fire on Thanksgiving Day damaged a garage and a vehicle on Batavia's east side, officials said. The fire occurred on the 500 block of North Washington Avenue (Route 25). The Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire there at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release. The first unit on the scene reported a working fire to the rear of the home in a lower-level garage. The fire companies advanced a hose line to the rear of the structure to extinguish the blaze. This sounds like someone was trying to get out of debt. Knowing they couldn't just burn the car down or crash the car they decided to burn down their own garage. Everyone around this time have financial situations and this was there way out.   more ›
