One firefighter was taken to Delnor Hospital after fighting the blaze that caused $200,000 damage Wednesday to a Batavia home on Ekman Drive, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release issued around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. The injured firefighter is unnamed in the press release, but a Kane County Chronicle article says the injuries were not life-threatening and likely heat-related. Firefighters battle a house house fire caused when lightning smashed through the roof of a home shortly after noon Wednesday, May 22.
Batavia, Geneva and other area firefighters battled a blaze on the rooftops of a Batavia home on Ekman Drive after a lightning bolt smashed through its roof shortly after noon Wednesday, May 22. The fire is at a home at 932 Ekman Drive, just west of Ekman's intersection with Raddant Road. The home is located just north of a neighborhood park. Firefighters at the scene said the fire was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike, and that was confirmed by Richard Bandur, the witness who phoned 911. An apparent two-vehicle crash sends drivers to Delnor Hospital as southbound Randall Road is shut down around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20.
Batavia police and fire officials had to shut down southbound Randall Road for at least a half hour Monday to clear the road and transport drivers to Delnor Hospital. The crash took place around 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, near the intersection of Randall Road and Mill Street, Tri-Com Dispatch scanner reports said. Southbound Randall Road remained blocked by emergency vehicles as of 10:35 a.m. Vehicles were being rerouted through business parking lots during the crash cleanup. Tri-Com reports said there were injuries in the crash, and ambulances were leaving in the director of Delnor Hospital around 10:20 a.m. Patch will update this article when information is available from official sources.

A house fire at 608 State Ave. in St. Charles about 12:29 p.m. shook up the Easter Sunday for residents and neighbors on the East Side and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. No one was injured. The St Charles Fire Department arrived at the blaze by 12:32 p.m. and found heavy smoke showing from all floors of the three-story home, according to a release from the department. “Upon entry, fire was found on all three floors,” the release states. “Due to the size of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a first level MABAS box alarm, bringing additional assistance to the scene,” the release states. Tri-Com reports that about 50 gallons of diesel fuel has spilled into the Batavia stormwater system on Douglas Road near Kirk Road.
About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the Batavia stormwater system around 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, following a truck fuel-tank leak near the intersection of Douglas Road and Kirk Road in Batavia. The leak was caused when a drive shaft broke and punctured two holes in the truck's fuel tank, Batavia Deputy Fire Chief Randy Banker said at the scene. Batavia police and fire officials reported to Douglas Road around 2 p.m., and Batavia public works personnel, North Aurora and Fermilab spill units, and Kane County personnel were at the scene as of 3 p.m. The Kane County Highway Department and the Environmental Protection Agency were contacted, as well, Banker said. The Batavia Fire Department reported to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Here's what happened.
A fire caused some damage early this morning at the ALDI Warehouse in Batavia, officials said. The fire appears to have started in a work area on a bench at the warehouse, located at 1200 N. Kirk Road, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release. Firemen were dispatched to the scene at 12:31 a.m. Fire crews initially did not know where the fire was. Batavia's Engine #1 crew entered the warehouse building to check a panel and investigate. Once inside, the Engine #1 crew reported smoke in the building. The alarm was upgraded to a full still and then a general alarm after the crew reported a fire in the forklift charging room. The woman's car veered off the road, crashed through a fence and struck a utility pole, according to police.
The Batavia woman that went to the hospital after a one-car crash earlier this month on Main Street received a citation in the incident, police said. The 34-year-old woman was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to a Batavia police crash report. The incident occurred at 11:27 a.m. Feb. 10 on the 1300 block of Main Street. Conditions were wet and icy on the roadway when the woman lost control of her crossover sport-utility vehicle. She struck a city street sign pole with signs, a fence on Mooseheart property and a wooden ComEd electric utility pole, the report said. The woman's vehicle rolled over and came to stop on its roof. A small hay fire Monday afternoon shook up some residents on Batavia's north side. The fire took place just outside a garage on the 1400 block of Orion Road. Batavia, North Aurora and other area fire crews were dispatched to the scene at 12:33 p.m., according to a press release. The initial call was for a possible garage fire, but once on scene fire crews found a bale of straw burning next to a garage. Police on Saturday morning identified the man who died after a two-car crash Friday on Randall Road. The man is 61-year-old David A. Schele of Sugar Grove, according to Batavia police.
