Construction Worker Hurt in St. Charles Bridge Accident

Work continues on the pedestrian bridge.

A construction worker was injured Wednesday morning at the Red Gate Bridge, which opened less than a month ago on the north end of St. Charles, the Kane County Chronicle reported. Police found the man on the bridge’s pedestrian deck, which remains closed as work continues on it. The pedestrian bridge is directly below the two-lane bridge for vehicles, which opened Dec. 15, 2012. St. Charles police told the Chronicle that the incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. and that the man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Walgreens Pharmarcy Robbery Hits Tri-Cities

A similar heist saw Oxycodone taken from a Naperville Walgreens. Here's what happened.

Police continue to investigate a brazen pharmacy robbery that began with a phone call. The call warned pharmacy employees there was a gunman in the store watching them and they should place drugs in a bag in the pharmacy’s pickup window, where someone then came and grabbed it. In a release issued Thursday, the St. Charles Police Department said officers were dispatched to Walgreens Pharmacy, 2751 E. Main St., at 9:35 p.m. Monday upon a report of a “robbery just occurred.” The drug heist occurred a little more than 21 hours after a similar robbery at a Naperville Walgreens, where Oxycodone was the targeted drug. St. Charles police identified the drug stolen in the heist there only as a controlled substance with no other specifics. Pharmacy …

Police Standoff Ends With Arrest in Tri-Cities

The Kane County SWAT team was called to the incident in St. Charles. The Saturday standoff lasted four hours.

A standoff that began on Saturday when a male threatened to shoot his father finally came to a close after four hours in St. Charles. The barricade situation unfolded at about 4:16 p.m. at a townhome in the 100 block of Whittington Course, police said. Officers were called for a domestic disturbance report and were notified while on their way of the male's threat against his father. The man’s name is not being released at this time because formal charges have not been made yet, police said. Officers arrived to find the parents outside the home and that the male had barricaded himself in the basement of the home. Drug Arrest for St. Charles Man Stopped for Seat Belt Violation

A St. Charles man faces drug-related charges after police had observed both he and the man he was driving with were seen by police not wearing seat belts. Jonathon Isiaha Hopkins, 20, of 312 Beatrice Ave., was arrested on May 2 for unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the police report, an officer saw the pair allegedly not wearing seat belts in a car traveling in the 400 block of East Main Street on May 2. After conducting a traffic stop, a check of the Hopkins indicated that he was wanted on a Kane County warrant and was arrested. The officer then requested permission from the driver to search the car and, according to the report, found a pipe and a small amount of marijuana. The driver, …

Batavia Man Receives DUI Citation After Cops Spot Him Driving Near Bar

A Batavia man faces a driving under the influence citation after reportedly telling a police officer, while sitting in a car he just drove, that he was waiting for a ride. Juan Carlos Dieppa, 21, of 221 N. Prairie St., was cited DUI of alcohol and also for a traffic violation on Feb. 11. According to the report, a Ford Focus, later determined to have been driven by Dieppa, was allegedly seen by a St. Charles police officer driving from a parking lot to a spot on Second Avenue. After an officer approached the car, Dieppa reportedly told him “I’m just waiting for my ride” several times. The officer also noted the man’s glassy, red eyes and a strong odor of alcohol. Basketball Game Leads to Head Butt

A five-on-five basketball game turned violent when a Batavia man allegedly head-butted another man in the nose. Randy Simon, 30, of 333 N. Forest Ave. was arrested for battery on Feb. 11. According to the police report, the victim had asked for the score of the basketball game, at which point Simon started to yell at and shove the man. Simon later told police that, in addition losing his “cool” and shoving the man, he also struck the man with his head. The victim was transported to an unidentified hospital. Plowing Into Snowbanks Leads One Batavia Man Into Trouble

A vehicle driven by a Batavia man reportedly struck two snowbanks when police attempted to stop him for possibly being impaired. Edward H. Walters, 36, of 789 Cambridge Dr., is charged with driving under the influence of drugs and a traffic violation. According to the report, police attempted to pull over a Chevrolet they believe was driven by an impaired driver on Feb. 9. During the stop, Walters told police that he took three codeine tablets and some aspirin before driving, according to the report. He refused a chemical test after police arrested him. Not Guilty Plea in Babysitter Sex Assault Case

The attorney for the accused Michael Listy is waiting on a possible offer.

Michael Listy pleaded not guilty Thursday to a 12-count indictment charging him with sexually assaulting a babysitter last year. Listy, 31, of the 1000 block of South Second Street, remains in Kane County Jail on $500,000 bail. He faces a minimum of six years in prison if convicted of the Class X aggravated criminal sexual assault charges and a minimum of three years if convicted of any of the Class 1 criminal sex assault charges. Circuit Judge Allen Anderson explained to Listy he could face consecutive sentences if found guilty of more than one of either the Class X or Class 1 charges.
