Annual St. Charles Mock Trial Tournament Is Saturday

Event starts at 8 a.m. and runs to 2 p.m. at St. Charles North High School.

The annual St. Charles Mock Trial Tournament runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 at the Kane County Judicial Center, according to a release from St. Charles Community Unit School District 303. Hosted by St. Charles East and St. Charles North high schools, the tournament will feature 14 teams from suburban schools from Kane, Lake and DuPage counties. This year's litigation is a criminal case, People v. Norton, in which the defendant is accused of theft of Abraham Lincoln photographs, the release said. Circuit judges from Kane County will preside over the trials, and trial lawyers from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Kane County Bar Association will serve as evaluators in the trials, the release said.

‘No Credible Threat’ at Two St. Charles Schools

Superintendent reassures parents, staff by email.

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 said Thursday that rumors of threats to Thompson Middle School and St. Charles East High School on Thursday were unfounded, the Kane County Chronicle reports. Superintendent Donald Schlomann, in an email to parents and teachers, said “no credible threat exists,” and explained that the district worked with the St. Charles Police Department to make that determination, according to the the Kane County Chronicle report. The rumors come nearly a week after a gunman forced his way into Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn., and shot to death 20 children and six adults before taking his own life.
