Do you want to help boost the economy and this community? Then you should do a little Small Business Saturday shopping. Today, Nov. 24, is the third annual Small Business Saturday event. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy here in Batavia. One of Batavia's prized downtown streets is open again to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. River Street reopened earlier this month with a new look and feel. The public is invited to join City officials on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM on River and State Street for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Guests are then encouraged to dine downtown and join the community on the Batavia Riverwalk at 5:30 PM for the Annual Celebration of Lights presented by the Batavia Park District. River Street is the first street in a series of streetscape projects to take place in the downtown over the next several years. It used to be Black Friday was for the earliest of early shoppers. Not anymore. Look around. The stores are ready now.
Look around the Chicago area and you'll see all the signs: The early birds no longer wait until Black Friday to do their Christmas shopping. This year, Black Friday is on Nov. 23, but big retailers and mail-order companies are starting well in advance. Amazon, for example, is beginning its Black Friday on Nov. 14. Crazy or crazy smart? Finally a good list of private restaurants in Batavia! Im sick of all the hype over the fast food chains lately, mainly Golden Corral, Chick fi A and the McDonalds.... Batavia doesn't need those low standard establishments.   more ›
