Floods Cancel May 4 Red Gate Ceremony

Work to finish the Red Gate Bridge’s pedestrian/bicycle crossing was held up by last week’s flooding, forcing the cancellation of the ribbon-cutting for the bridge’s final stage.

Officials announced Thursday afternoon they have cancelled the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the pedestrian/bicycle crossing of the Red Gate Bridge, due to the flood. The ceremony had been scheduled at 9 a.m. May 4, but the heavy rains that caused last week’s flooding of the Fox River and surrounding area halted all work on the project, the city said in a release. “In the interest of public safety, the paths and boardwalks will not be opened at this time,” the release states. “The event, … will be held on a future date, yet to be determined.” The completion of the pedestrian/bicycle crossing will mark the official end to construction of the $30 million bridge. Driver Injured in Rollover Crash Wednesday

Woman taken to Delnor after experiencing dizziness, vision loss prior to accident.

A St. Charles woman was hospitalized after her vehicle crashed and rolled onto its top Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2012, on Red Gate Road. Samantha M. Plezbert, 19, of the 5N300 block of Fence Rail Court, was driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser when the crash occurred about 1:44 p.m. in the 400 block of Red Gate Road, west of Meadow View Drive. A St. Charles Police Department accident report states that Plezbert was westbound on Red Gate when she experienced dizziness and blurred vision, and then was unable to see anything. The vehicle continued westbound but crossed the eastbound lane and left the roadway, struck a sign post and then made contact with three trees and began to roll over, ending up on its roof.
