POLICE: Armed Robbery Reported At North Aurora 7-Eleven

The robbery occurred late this morning. Here's a suspect description.

A 7-Eleven store in North Aurora was robbed Monday morning, according to police. The robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven on 2 S. Lincolnway, located at the southwest corner of Lincolnway (Route 31) and State Street (Route 56). North Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the scene at 9:57 a.m., according to a police statement released this afternoon. "Upon arrival, officers learned that at approximately 9:40 a.m. a female store employee was robbed outside of the store as she was transporting store money to the bank," the statement said. The suspect was waiting out of sight on the south side of the building. He knocked her to the ground, displayed the barrel of a gun and demanded money, according to police. Police: Rash of Car Burglaries Hits North Aurora

All of the burglaries were committed at night. Here's more details.

Cars on North Aurora's west side are being targeted for burglaries, according to police. There have been seven burglaries to vehicles reported in the Timber Oaks, Highlands, and RCA subdivisions since Nov. 19. The general area of these crimes are bordered by Mistwood Lane to the north, Juniper Drive to the west, Princeton Drive to the south and Route 31 to the east. "This alert is being issued to encourage citizens to take action to protect their belongings," said a statement from the North Aurora Police Department. There were four burglaries in the RCA subdivision, two in the Highlands subdivision and one in the Timber Oaks subdivision. Murder-Suicide Case Closed in North Aurora

Police name a 58-year-old resident as the suspect.

The investigation into an Oct. 29 murder-suicide that ended in the death of a man and woman on Route 31 is now closed, police said. Jon S. Neel was the suspect in the case, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora deputy police chief. North Aurora police had no interaction with Neel prior to this incident. But on Oct. 29, officers were dispatched at 8:51 p.m. to Eden Supportive Living, 311 S. Lincolnway, for a suicidal resident who was threatening to jump from his third-floor apartment window. On-site security at the building identified the resident as Neel, 58. Dog in Coyote Attack Likely Dead in North Aurora, Police Say

The dog was never found and a body was never recovered.

The dog that was attacked by coyotes and taken away earlier this month in North Aurora is presumed dead, according to police. The dog never returned and his body was never recovered, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora deputy police chief. A group of coyotes took the small dog away at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 4 while he was in the owner's backyard in the 2800 block of Sterkel Road. In a coyote encounter, an owner or human's presence might make the difference. Buziecki said he is not a coyote expert, but it appears that the wild animals went for the small dog in the Nov. 4 incident because it wasn't directly by its owner. That wasn't the case for another incident, which involved two coyotes and took place on Nov. 3 in a baseball field near Bauer …

Batavia Man Accused of Robbery, Vehicle Invasion

This 46-year-old faces three charges in connection to a gas station incident. Here's what happened.

A 46-year-old Batavia man faces three charges in connection to an incident outside a gas station on Monday. Jeffrey S. Greer, 46, of the first block of North Batavia Avenue, was charged with vehicular invasion, robbery and battery. North Aurora police patrol officers responded to a disturbance involving Greer at about 8:40 a.m. Monday at Thornton's on the 400 block of South Lincolnway (Route 31). Upon arrival, officers learned that Greer approached a vehicle occupied by two females and asked for money. One of the females, who was seated in the passenger seat, refused. Greer then reached inside the vehicle and struck the passenger in the face and stomach area. He then took $13 in U.S. currency from inside the vehicle. Greer then left the …

Fallen North Aurora Soldier Honored at HS Veterans Day Ceremony

A video tribute was presented to remember 20-year-old Chris Patterson, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in January during a mission in Afghanistan.

A local high school paid tribute during a Veterans Day ceremony to a 2009 graduate gone too soon. A video tribute for Spc. Christopher Patterson of North Aurora was presented Friday at West Aurora High School, the Daily Herald reports. Patterson's parents Bob and Mary, who works at the school, were present for the ceremony. Patterson was a Valparaiso University student and Indiana National Guardsman when his guard unit was called for duty in 2011. On January 6, 2012, Patterson and three other soldiers died when an improvised explosive device went off underneath their vehicle. Patterson was 20 years old. Coyote Attacks, Takes Dog in North Aurora

There were two coyote incidents in the area this weekend. Here are the details.

A small dog was attacked and pulled into the darkness by coyotes in North Aurora this past weekend, police announced Tuesday. A small Yorkie terrier was taken by coyotes on the village's far west side. The attack happened in the 2800 block of Sterkel Road, between Kelley Drive and Western Drive, on Sunday, Nov. 4 at about 2:30 a.m. Neighbors reported hearing coyotes howling and then heard the dog being attacked while he was in a backyard, which backs up to a pond area. The owner, who was watching from the back door, reported that the coyotes came from the tall grass around the pond, grabbed the five-year-old, 11-lb. dog, and took him back into the weeds. Residents Grieve For 2 Dead in Murder-Suicide

The 58-year-old man who jumped out of a window Monday had passed an extensive background check, the building's director said.

The residents and staff members of a Route 31 apartment complex struggled to come to terms with the death of two residents after a murder-suicide there this week. Most of the Eden Supportive Living's 150-member community spoke with a counselor individually or in a group setting, said Barbara Lawrence, director of the apartment complex, on Wednesday. "We’re hanging in there," Lawrence said. "It’s a horrible tragedy, it’s affected everyone in the building." Police were called to the complex, 311 S. Three residents of an apartment where a home invasion took place earlier this month now face drug charges, police announced on Friday. Two of the three men charged were shot during an Oct. 2 home invasion at their apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road in North Aurora near the Fox River. "The investigation has determined that this home invasion was drug-related," a North Aurora Police Department statement said. "No further information is available at this time as to the offenders in the home invasion."
