Police name a 58-year-old resident as the suspect.
The investigation into an Oct. 29 murder-suicide that ended in the death of a man and woman on Route 31 is now closed, police said. Jon S. Neel was the suspect in the case, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora deputy police chief. North Aurora police had no interaction with Neel prior to this incident. But on Oct. 29, officers were dispatched at 8:51 p.m. to Eden Supportive Living, 311 S. Lincolnway, for a suicidal resident who was threatening to jump from his third-floor apartment window. On-site security at the building identified the resident as Neel, 58. A 50-year-old woman who also had an apartment in the building was found that night stabbed, unresponsive and cold to the touch in Neel's apartment. Tomi Vandiver was pronounced dead at …

The dog was never found and a body was never recovered.
The dog that was attacked by coyotes and taken away earlier this month in North Aurora is presumed dead, according to police. The dog never returned and his body was never recovered, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora deputy police chief. A group of coyotes took the small dog away at about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 4 while he was in the owner's backyard in the 2800 block of Sterkel Road. In a coyote encounter, an owner or human's presence might make the difference. Buziecki said he is not a coyote expert, but it appears that the wild animals went for the small dog in the Nov. 4 incident because it wasn't directly by its owner. That wasn't the case for another incident, which involved two coyotes and took place on Nov. 3 in a baseball field near Bauer …

North Aurora police patrol officers responded to a disturbance involving Greer at about 8:40 a.m. Monday at Thornton's on the 400 block of South Lincolnway (Route 31). Greer then reached inside the vehicle and struck the passenger in the face and stomach area. He then took $13 in U.S. currency from inside the vehicle. Greer then left the …

There were two coyote incidents in the area this weekend. Here are the details.
A small dog was attacked and pulled into the darkness by coyotes in North Aurora this past weekend, police announced Tuesday. A small Yorkie terrier was taken by coyotes on the village's far west side. The attack happened in the 2800 block of Sterkel Road, between Kelley Drive and Western Drive, on Sunday, Nov. 4 at about 2:30 a.m. Neighbors reported hearing coyotes howling and then heard the dog being attacked while he was in a backyard, which backs up to a pond area. The owner, who was watching from the back door, reported that the coyotes came from the tall grass around the pond, grabbed the five-year-old, 11-lb. dog, and took him back into the weeds. He said it happened faster than he could react. This incident is believed to be the …

The 58-year-old man who jumped out of a window Monday had passed an extensive background check, the building's director said.
The residents and staff members of a Route 31 apartment complex struggled to come to terms with the death of two residents after a murder-suicide there this week. Most of the Eden Supportive Living's 150-member community spoke with a counselor individually or in a group setting, said Barbara Lawrence, director of the apartment complex, on Wednesday. "We’re hanging in there," Lawrence said. "It’s a horrible tragedy, it’s affected everyone in the building." Police were called to the complex, 311 S. Lincolnway, Route 31 in North Aurora, on Monday night for a report of a suicidal resident. The resident, a 58-year-old man, jumped from his third-floor window. Inside his apartment police found Tomi Vandiver, 50, another resident of the complex. …

Investigators are looking for two men in connection to the Oct. 2 incident on Route 25.
The two men who invaded an apartment and shot at two other men in North Aurora last week never found the item they were looking for, police said. The item the men demanded was not in the apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora Deputy Police Chief. Buziecki said he could not reveal what the item was, but said it was not in police custody last week. Buziecki also said there was no evidence of forced entry during the incident, which occurred at about 7 a.m. Oct. 2. The two men knocked on the door of an apartment in the building. Once a 22-year-old man opened the door, one of the men "pointed a gun at him and demanded to be given an item that they were looking for," according to a North Aurora…

The two men shot are still at the hospital. Here's the full update.
Police on Wednesday released a possible motive for the Tuesday shooting and home invasion of two men in North Aurora. "Detectives believe that the motive for this crime was theft of an item," a North Aurora Police Department statement said. "It is also believed that the suspects have a connection to the victims, either direct or indirect." The two suspects went to the apartment of the two men, ages 22 and 23, and demanded they hand over an item. The item was not specified in the police statement. When asked by Batavia Patch, Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said he couldn't say what the item was at this time. The suspects eventually shot the two men and fled the apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road near the Fox River. The two…
