Murder-Suicide Victim's Family Suing North Aurora Supportive Living Center

The family claims Eden should have taken steps to protect residents.

The family of the 50-year-old victim of a murder-suicide in October is suing the Eden Supporting Living Center in North Aurora, where she was killed. According to a report in The Beacon-News, the family of Tomi Vandiver is saying the assisted living community should have expelled her boyfriend and suspected murder, 58-year-old Jon Neel, because of his previous violent history. Vandiver was stabbed to death Oct. 29, 2012, in the living center at 311 S. Lincolnway St., North Aurora. Neel died when he jumped out of a third-story window on that same day. Vandiver had a romantic relationship with Neel, according to an initial investigation. She went to his apartment to gather some of her things early in the evening on Oct. 29 before she planned…

Dog Killed, Arrest Made in March 1 Home Invasion; 1 Suspect Still at Large

Quintin D. Mullen, 22, faces charges that police say was "not a random attack."

A suspect has been arrested and charges have been filed in the March 1 home invasion and shooting incident in the 200 block of Laurel Drive, North Aurora police report. Detectives identified Quintin D. Mullen, 22, of the 1700 block of Felten Road, Aurora as a suspect and then issued an “Attempt To Locate” bulletin to area police agencies on Monday night. Mullen was arrested by officers of the Aurora Police Department around 4:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue, Aurora. Aurora police turned Mullen over to North Aurora police, and he was held overnight at the North Aurora Police Department. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Mullen: Mullen appeared at a bond hearing …

Home Invasion, Shooting Reported in North Aurora Friday Afternoon

Two men ran off with a safe and shot a dog. Here are the suspect descriptions.

Police are in search of two men who forced their way into a North Aurora duplex Friday afternoon, held the residents at gunpoint and shot a dog three times. The home invasion occurred at a duplex in the 200 block of Laurel Drive on the village's east side, according to a police statement. North Aurora police officers were dispatched to the block at about 1:21 p.m. for a dog that had been shot. "Upon arrival, officers discovered that a home invasion had taken place," the statement said. "Officers learned that the residents heard a knock at the door and, before they could open the door, the suspects kicked the door open and displayed a gun." Armed Robbery Reported at 7-Eleven on Butterfield Road

A man pointed a semi-automatic gun at a clerk, police said. Here's a suspect description.

A 7-Eleven store in North Aurora was robbed Thursday morning, according to police. The robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven on 718 Butterfield Road. This is in the plaza on the southwest corner of Butterfield and Hart/Mitchell roads. North Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:35 a.m., according to a police statement released Friday afternoon. "Upon arrival, officers learned that at approximately 5:15 a.m., a male wearing a mask entered the store and pointed a small black gun at (a store clerk)," the statement said. A teen faces charges in connection to a hidden camera found in his neighbors' bedroom, North Aurora police announced Wednesday. The teen is 16 years old, male and lives in the 1100 block of Oak Crest Drive in North Aurora, according to police. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against the juvenile suspect: The charges are Class A misdemeanors. Driver Charged With Aggravated DUI After Route 25 Crash, Passenger Critical

A 35-year-old man faces aggravated DUI and reckless driving charges in connection to Sunday's serious car crash on Route 25, police said. Victor M. Alvarez, of the 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway, Aurora, was driving northbound in a silver Nissan Murano crossover sport-utility vehicle that ran off the west side of the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to a North Aurora police statement. Man Airlifted After Route 25 Car Crash Sunday Afternoon

The vehicle went about 60 feet off the road, according to officials. Here's what happened.

UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle in this crash was taken to jail Feb. 11 and faces two felony charges. One man was airlifted to a hospital after a one-car crash Sunday afternoon on Route 25 south of Batavia, fire officials said. The crash occurred at the Red Oak Nature Center entrance on the 2300 block of South River Road (Route 25). Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at about 2:15 p.m., said Mike Klemencic, a North Aurora fire captain. An Aurora woman faces charges of illegally practicing dentistry at a North Aurora dental office, police said. North Aurora police and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office have obtained a criminal indictment against the woman for illegal dentistry practice at the North Aurora Dental Associates office on the 100 block of North Lincolnway (Route 31). The defendant is Silvia Hernandez, 37, of the 400 block of Iowa Avenue, Aurora. Police Warn of Home Repair Scam on Route 25

A woman and her son outsmarted a group of suspects. Here are the details.

Keep an eye out for a home repair fraud that involves a ruse to get inside your house, police said. A group of men tried to pull the scam at the home of a 78-year-old woman, according to North Aurora police. The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 19 on the 100 block of South River Road (Route 25). A man came to the woman’s door and offered to repair her driveway by fixing the cracks and resurfacing the driveway with a “new type of coating,” not blacktop. He said the work would cost $1,000 and would come with an eight-year guarantee.
