A Tornado Watch is in effect for Kane County and others in Northern Illinois. There's also a Hazardous Weather Outlooke going on.
The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a Tornado Watch for Kane County and the surrounding area until 3 a.m. Monday, May 20. That goes hand in hand with a Hazardous Weather Outlook for out neck of the woods. Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast, with wind gusts up to 65 mph, locally heavy rain and lightning. It's supposed to arrive "mid to late evening and early overnight." "Wind will be the primary threat," the NWS-C says, but isolated tornadoes and large hail are possible. Looking ahead, scattered thunderstorms are possible Monday through Wednesday night with the potential for severe weather. Heavy rains will be possible with any of the scattered storms—which could cause some local flooding.

We could see a 36-degree temperature jump from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon.
Monday night low around 50 degrees. Tuesday's high: 86. On Monday morning, many of us were scraping frost from the windshield when we set out for work or the commuter train station. On Tuesday, we'll be reaching for the sunscreen. As usual in the Tri-Cities, we just seem to advance from winter to summer without passing "Go." If you're heading for school tomorrow, dress in layers so you can peel off and stay as cool as possible. If you're going to be outside, we weren't joking about the sunscreen. The National Weather Service Chicago isn't issuing any special warning for unseasonably warm weather—no hazardous weather alerts or danger signals—but the 80s are expected to continue into Wednesday, so be aware and be prepared.

A flood warning is still in place for parts of the Fox River, and more rain is expected—with the potential for some heavy storms—later this week.
It is a beautiful day Tuesday, and all the area riverside parks—including the beleaguered Island Park in Geneva—are open. Meanwhile, a Flood Warning that has been in place for the Algonquin Tailwater since the April 18 deluge has a chance to be lifted by Tuesday night. But that doesn't mean we're out of the woods as far as Fox River flooding is concerned. The National Weather Service-Chicago says more rain is on the way, and some of it has the potential to be severe. The NWS-C still has a Flood Warning for the tailwater that affects Kane and McHenry counties and still is warning about flooded roadways north or the Tri-Cities. The National Weather Service-Chicago still has a flood warning in place for parts of the Fox River, but the river level is receding.
A Flood Warning remains in effect for parts of the Fox River, but the National Weather Service-Chicago says it probably will be lifted by Sunday. Geneva, Batavia, St. Charles and communities along the Fox are still recovering from the April 18 rains that flooded basements, back yards, roads and property along the river. The Flood Warning continues for the Fox River at Montgomery affecting Kane and Kendall counties. The Fox River at the Algonquin Tailwater is also still at flood levels as of Tuesday, April 30. "The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by early Sunday morning," according to the Flood Warning. At the Algonquin Tailwater, the flood stage was 11.4 feet as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service Chicago says to be on the lookout for thunderstorms, winds up to 60 mph and some flooding of the Fox River—not as much here as north and south of here, in Montgomery and Algonquin.

You can still expect a blustery, snowy Tuesday.
The National Weather Service-Chicago has issued a Winter Storm Watch for potentially heavy snow and strong winds starting Tuesday morning and continuing through Tuesday afternoon. The watch was issued at around 10:25 a.m. Monday for most of Northern Illinois. For Kane County, wet snow could be mixed with sleet. The precipitation is supposed to taper off into light snow Tuesday evening, the NWS-C says. Accumulation could be as much as 6 inches, and the wind is supposed to gust to 40 mph, especially near the lake. One of the big concerns is travel visibility, which could make for "hazardous" driving conditions, the NWS-C says. It's getting darned cold, so be careful out there. Yes, just days after record-high temperatures and a Flood Watch in the Tri-Cities, we've got a wind-chill advisory in place from midnight Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service-Chicago. The wind chill values will get down and get funky—to about 15 to 25 degrees below zero overnight. The dangers, of course, are frostbite and hypothermia. "IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS ... Up to 2.6 inches of rainfall were recorded on Sunday in areas of Kane County. Batavia and Geneva were mentioned specifically in the National Weather Service alert.
The National Weather Service Chicago issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Kane County that mentions Geneva and Batavia specifically as areas in the most danger. According to the NWS-Chicago alert, the warning was aimed at central Cook County, DuPage County, northeastern Kendall County and southeastern Kane until 2 a.m. Monday. A dense fog advisory is also in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. Trained weather spotters at 7:05 p.m. Sunday reported 2.6 inches of rainfall three miles southwest of North Aurora.
