After three months of construction, McDonald's returns in a brand-new building in downtown Batavia. There will be daily specials through Dec. 9 at this location.
The golden arches are back up again in downtown Batavia. The new Batavia McDonald's is set to open this week of Dec. 3-9, Yanni Management told the Kane County Chronicle. Yanni runs nine McDonald's locations in the Tri-Cities area. Residents will finally see the inside of the brand-new building, which will include TVs in some seating areas, according to the Chronicle. Like other area McDonald's, the Batavia location had a double drive-thru installed to handle a large volume of car traffic. The new digs were constructed in the same spot of the old building, 125 W. Wilson St. Crews began to tear down the 34-year-old structure on Sept. 5 and leveled the property in about 48 hours. Officials projected a November opening, but the tentative 60-…

Local business owners, developers and city officials were brutally honest during a Wednesday night forum that addressed the future vision for Batavia and its businesses. Here are some quotes and pictures.
Batavia residents on May 23 urged city officials to rethink its policies in the hopes of creating a more vibrant and economically strong city. The residents spoke to the city's Plan Commission during an open forum last Wednesday at Batavia City Hall. Six community members attended the forum and addressed the council about the Comprehensive Plan, including representatives from Batavia Enterprises, Vasilion Architects and Walgreens. Each of these speakers addressed the difficulties of approving a Walgreens plan for downtown Batavia. Some also spoke about the larger issue of Batavia's economic growth. “I’ve found, as a professional, it to be a very frustrating experience,” Steve Vasilion of Vasilion Architects, said. “I guess what I’d like to…

The Batavia Plan Commission on Wednesday approved the design for a new 4,039-square foot restaurant. This was the last vote needed from the city to begin the long-awaited project.
It's official: Batavia will have a new downtown McDonald's. The Batavia Plan Commission voted 6-1 in favor of the design for a new 4,039-sq. ft. restaurant. This was the last vote needed from the city to actually begin the project. “This is final,” said Joel Strassman, the city's planning and zoning officer, following the vote to approve the design. Plan Commission Member Tom LaLonde voted against the design review. The two absent members were Kris Monn, school district representative and John Tilmon, park district representative. The Batavia City Council on April 16 approved variances and a conditional use permit for the McDonald's plan, leaving only the Plan Commission’s approval of design. After a five-year process to build a new …

A design review is still pending for the project. Here's what aldermen had to say on April 16.
The Batavia City Council on Monday approved three variances and a conditional use permit for a new downtown McDonald's. Although the council mostly voted in favor of the ordinances and permit, the Plan Commission still needs to complete the design review before the project can get underway. The Plan Commission intended to discuss the design review at its meeting this Wednesday, April 18, but it has been continued to the May 9 meeting instead. There were changes that the Zoning Board and the Plan Commission were waiting for McDonald’s to do, and there isn’t time for the Plan Commission to review those changes, Alderman Dave Brown said. McDonald's want to tear down its existing Batavia building at 125 W. Wilson St. and erect a new one in its…

A city committee on Tuesday recommended approval of 3 variances + a conditional use permit for a double drive through for a brand-new Mickey D's. Some aldermen are still concerned it doesn't accommodate pedestrians. Here's quotes from both sides.
The plan for a new Batavia McDonald's cleared another hurdle Tuesday night. The Community Development Committee unanimously recommended approval of McDonald’s three variance requests and a conditional use permit for a double drive through. The variances and conditional use permit now need to pass the Batavia City Council to become official. The Plan Commission will also discuss and vote on a design review for the new McDonald's on April 18. Once these steps are complete, the project can officially get underway. "I'm glad you're staying in town," Alderman Dave Brown told the McDonald's representatives after the vote. McDonald’s plans to demolish the current 34-year-old restaurant on 125 W. Wilson Street and build a smaller 4,039-square …

Increasing taxes in an already highly distressed state where businesses are prohibited due to high taxes is absurd. Quality will bring you quantity, not quantity to bring quantity. This entire taxation idea is not working. How long will it take the state and counties to get a clue?   more ›
