UPDATE: Elburn Woman Dies in 1-Car Crash Early Thursday

The 49-year-old woman is found behind the wheel of an SUV around 5 a.m. Thursday at Main Street and Green Road in Blackberry Township, about a mile from her home.

A 49-year-old Elburn woman died early Thursday morning in a one-car crash near the intersection of Main Street and Green Road in unincorporated Blackberry Township. Sheriff's deputies found Marilyn Gould of the 2-S-200 block of Green Road, Elburn, behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle when they responded at around 5 a.m. to reports of a crash in the area of Green Road south of Main Street in Blackberry Township. The crash took place about a mile from Gould's home, Kane County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Patrick Gengler said in a press release issued around 11 a.m. Gould, the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Boy Dies After Car Crash in Western Kane County Wednesday

The 11-year-old was a back-seat passenger, police said. Here's what happened.

An 11-year-old boy is dead after a fatal crash Wednesday night in western Kane County, the Sheriff's Office said. The boy, a Sycamore resident, was a back-seat passenger in a Chevy Cavalier that was rear-ended by a Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicle. The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Route 64 west of Peplow Road in unincorporated Virgil Township, according to a Sheriff's Office statement. The driver of the Cavalier, 21-year-old Nicholas Weber, is the brother of the boy. Weber, his brother and an 18-year-old front seat passenger were transported to a hospital after the crash. UPDATE: Missing Man With Dementia Found Unharmed in Oswego

This 84-year-old was reported missing after being last seen at about 3 a.m. Thursday, police said. He is OK, the Kane County Sheriff's Office reports.

The senior citizen with dementia reported missing early Thursday morning was found in Oswego, the Kane County Sheriff's Office reports. Jesus Zapeda, 84, was last seen by his family at about 3 a.m. at their home in the 700 block of South Calhoun Street in unincorporated Aurora Township. Family members said he wandered off, and reported the incident to the Sheriff's Office. Zepeda was located at about 10 a.m. near Route 31 and Washington Street in downtown Oswego. "He was unharmed and told police that he wanted to walk to Mexico," the Sheriff's Office reported. Sheriff's officials did not suspect foul play, but sent Zapeda's photo and asked residents to call 911 with any information. Family members were worried because Zapeda suffers from …

'Suspicious Package' at Batavia Post Office Was Just Weights

Postal workers pulled the package when they thought they heard a ticking sound, officials said.

The "suspicious package" found at the Batavia Post Office Thursday morning turned out to be lifting weights, officials said. The package of weights was dropped off sometime Wednesday evening in the Automated Postal Center kiosk in the post office's lobby, the Daily Herald reports. The lobby area of the post office is open 24/7. Postal workers said they heard a "ticking sound" coming from the package, Beverly Howard, Postal Service customer relations coordinator, told the Kane County Chronicle. The Postal Inspection Service was called to the scene, followed by Batavia police and the Kane County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad at 5:19 a.m. Thursday. Update: Kane Sheriff Releases Possible Cause of Death for Body Found Near Creek

A 56-year-old Aurora man was found Friday at about 6:20 a.m.

Updated 1 p.m. Friday The Kane County Sheriff's office is reporting that a 56-year-old Aurora man found near the Waubonsie Creek Friday is likely to have committed suicide. The man's body was found along the side of Farnsworth Avenue at about 6:20 a.m. Friday. According to the sheriff's office, the man lived close to where his body was found.  Original post The Kane County Sheriff's office is conducting a death investigation this morning near Farnsworth Avenue between Ogden Avenue and Montgomery Road in unincorporated Aurora Township, according to a release from the sheriff.  Farnsworth Avenue is closed between Ogden and Montgomery while the investigation continues, the sheriff's office said. No other information is currently available.

Police Name Driver in Fatal Car vs. Truck Crash on Route 38

Here is her identity and how the crash happened.

Police Tuesday afternoon identified the driver who died at the scene of a car vs. truck crash west of Elburn. The driver is 78-year-old Lorella Huff, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Huff was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry north on Francis Road. For reasons unknown, she did not stop at the stop sign for Route 38, the Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. Huff's car entered the intersection and struck a 2012 Hino box truck heading west on Route 38. Traffic on Route 38 does not have a stop sign. The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old man from Roselle, was uninjured. Huff was pronounced dead at the crash scene. SHERIFF: Fatal Crash Reported on Route 38 Near Elburn Tuesday Afternoon

Route 38 was closed for about 3.5 hours while police responded to the crash.

Update: Route 38 was open again to traffic at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police released the name of the driver who died in the crash. A fatal crash late Tuesday morning shut down Route 38 in the Elburn area, police said. Route 38 was blocked between Route 47 and Meredith Road, and was closed for several hours, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. A Patch staffer near the scene said motorists accessed Route 47 for a detour. The crash occurred on Route 38 and Francis Road, about 2.3 miles west of Routes 38 and 47. Death of Man Found Near Events Center Ruled Suicide

The death of a 43-year-old Geneva man whose body was found over the weekend is being considered a suicide, officials said. The Kane County Coroner's Office will conduct a toxicology report on the body of Casey Gemeny, the Kane County Chronicle reports. County Coroner Rob Russell told the Chronicle that he didn't know whether a full autopsy would be completed. Gemeny's body was discovered in a tree Saturday in the northeast part of the Kane County Events Center property, said Laurie Metanchuk, Community Affairs director for the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. 3 Accused in BB Gun Incident Released From Jail

The three people in a traffic stop that caused school lockdowns Monday only spent a couple hours in jail before they posted bond, according to records.

The three people in a traffic stop that caused Geneva schools to lockdown on Monday are already out of custody, according to jail records. Oswego residents Hector J. Rubio, 18, Michael P. Thompson, 20, and Auroran Elle P. Fowler, 18, each posted $150 bond and were released from the Kane County Jail Monday night. The amount was 10 percent of their $1,500 bail. The three accused were booked into the county jail between 4:22 p.m. and 4:37 p.m. Monday, jail records show. Police Name Driver in Fatal Route 25 Crash

The 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Here is his identity and how the crash happened.

Police Monday afternoon identified the driver who died at the scene of a two-car crash on Route 25 near Batavia. The driver is 45-year-old Karl Smith of St. Charles, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Smith was driving a sport-utility vehicle on Route 25 along a curve when his vehicle spun out of control, crossing into opposite traffic, the Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash north of the Banbury Road intersection at about 9 a.m. Jan. 7. The SUV struck a Honda Accord that was traveling south on Route 25.
