Sheriff: Mailbox Explodes Outside Post Office

Deputies arrived to find a blown-up mailbox in the southwest part of the county. There are no suspects so far.

A mailbox in western Kane County somehow exploded over the weekend, according to the Kane Co. Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies responded at 5:10 a.m. on Aug. 5 for a blown-up metal postal mailbox outside the Big Rock Post Office, 100 E. First St. in Big Rock, according to a press release. The mailbox was not physically attached to the post office, and there was no damage to any structures. The deputies and postal authorities collected the mail that was inside the drop box. The Sheriff’s Office does not have any suspect information and have received no other reports similar to this incident. Sheriff’s Detectives and Postal Authorities continue to investigate the matter. Plane Goes Down in Sugar Grove; No One Hurt

A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed north of Aurora Airport Wednesday morning, police said.

Two California men are uninjured after their small plane crashed into a cornfield north of the Aurora Airport on Wednesday morning, officials said. A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza was attempting to take off at about 9 a.m. and was headed to Oshkosh, WI, from California, according to Sugar Grove Fire Chief Marty Kunkel. During takeoff, the plane apparently lost power. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a cornfield on the north side of the Airport property and crashed into the cornfield. The men, one pilot and one co-pilot, were the only two people on board and they were uninjured. UPDATE: Half-Million Bail Set For Kane Co. Motorcycle Rider in Chase

Renato Barsellotti remains in the Kane County Jail following a July 18 high-speed motorcycle chase.

A Kane County judge set bail recently for a 27-year-old Elgin man accused of aggravated battery to a police officer and fleeing from sheriff's deputies. Renato Barsellotti remains in the Kane County Jail on $500,000 bond, according to county court records. To apply for bond and be released, Barsellotti or someone else needs to post 10 percent of the bail, or $50,000. Barsellotti faces multiple charges, including two counts each of aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. Deputies initially observed Barsellotti riding at speeds over 80 mph west of Elgin after midnight on July 18. Sheriff: Motorcycle Chase Ends in Multiple Charges For Kane Co. Man

The man rammed his Harley into a patrol car twice during the July 18 chase, police said.

A 27-year-old Elgin man is headed to court after a motorcycle chase with Kane County Sheriff's Office deputies early Wednesday morning. Renato Barsellotti, of the 37W100 block of Brookside Drive, face two counts each of aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a peace officer in connection to the incident. At about 12:30 a.m. on July 18, Kane County deputies observed a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling west on Rt. 20 near Coombs Road at over 80 miles per hour. Deputies attempted to stop the motorcycle but the driver, Barsellotti, sped up and began to disobey several traffic signs and signals, according to a press release. Police ID Woman Found Dead Near Kaneland School

The woman was on the ground near a vehicle Wednesday morning. Here is her identity.

Police on Wednesday identified the woman who was found dead that morning north of Kaneland High School. The woman is 57-year-old Joyce David of Elburn, according to a Kane County Sheriff's Department press release. David was found near a crossover sports-utility vehicle that was pulled over on the side of Meredith Road north of Keslinger Road in unincorporated Kaneville Township, police said. The SUV is a family vehicle, Lt. Pat Gengler said. It did not appear to have any visible damages to police. A passerby called police Wednesday at about 7:30 a.m. to report the vehicle pulled over on the road. Deputies found David at the scene. A woman's body was found in a vehicle Wednesday morning north of the Kaneland High School property, police said. At about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kane County Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate a vehicle pulled over on the side of Meredith Road north of Keslinger Road in unincorporated Kaneville Township. The deputies located a deceased woman near the vehicle and began a death investigation into the incident, according to a Sheriff's Department press release. Fire Reported at M.A. Center in LaFox Area Thursday

This is the second fire reported this month at a place of worship in Kane County.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire at a religious center west of the Tri-Cities, officials confirmed late Thursday evening. The fire was at the M.A. Center Chicago, which has a listed address of 41W501 Keslinger Road, Elburn. There were police scanner reports about the fire at about 9:55 p.m. Thursday. No one died or was reported injured in the incident. No other information was immediately available, including: A Patch contributor observed several emergency vehicles at the center at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday. SHERIFF: Kane County Man Dies in Car Crash

The man's vehicle hit a concrete encasement before it overturned. He was 58.

A 58-year-old Hampshire man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car rollover crash on Thursday in the same town, police said. Thomas E. Kopitka was driving a 1989 white Ford Mustang that left northbound Walker Road about a half-mile north of Route 72. Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at 8:53 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release. The Mustang left the roadway on the west side and struck a concrete encasement before overturning and coming to rest in a field. Kopitka was the only person in the vehicle. No one saw the crash and it is not known why the vehicle left the roadway, the press release said. The incident remains under investigation at this time. A package that was originally tagged as suspicious Thursday morning only contained consumer electronics, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said. Mother Suspects Potpourri Product Played Role in Max Dobner Crash

Karen Dobner thinks her son's death might be linked to a legal product sold in a tobacco store that has been called a synthetic form of marijuana. She will likely appear on the Today Show Thursday. The Kane Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating the case.

On the afternoon of June 14, Max Dobner called his oldest brother, Justin. "I smoked that legal stuff and my heart is pounding and I’m having a panic attack," Max told his brother, according to his mother, Karen Dobner. Justin told him to take a shower and lie down and that he would be OK. Fifteen minutes later, they spoke again. Justin asked his brother if he was OK. He got a curt "yes" before he hung up. Later in the afternoon, Max apparently got into his car and drove from Aurora to Batavia Township. His car was seen driving at a high rate of speed. He died after the car crashed into a two-story home. "I had no idea what the legal stuff was," Karen Dobner told Batavia Patch on Tuesday. "It took me awhile to find out what he was …
