Kane County Fair talent show winner Nicole DiSandro, 14, of Elburn has won first place in the Junior Competition at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fair (IAAF) talent contest. The event was held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. DiSandro performed her theatrical vocal solo, Gimme Gimme from Thoroughly Modern Millie, which she also performed at the Kane County Fair Talent Contest in July for her award-winning performance. DiSandro competed against 36 other acts to win the first place prize, a trophy and monetary award. Because she won first place, DiSandro will perform at the Illinois State Fair, which runs Aug. 8-19, 2013, in Springfield. Eric Luminais, 19, of Geneva earned a strong seventh place …

The Kane County Fair Talent Contest first place winners Eric Luminais, 19, of Geneva, Senior Division, and Nicole DiSandro, 14, of Elburn, Junior Division, will compete on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs Official Talent Contest State Competition in Springfield, IL. The talented Luminais performed an unconventional and complicated flute solo titled Three Beats for Beatbox Flute, Beats 1 & 2. DiSandro performed a theatrical vocal solo, Gimme Gimme from Thoroughly Modern Millie that was very strong and entertaining. Both Luminais and DiSandro received a $200 First Place prize at the Kane County Fair Talent Contest held on Monday, July 16, 2012, as a “Pre-Fair Showcase” at the Kane County …

The calliope is tuning up, turkey legs are in the rotisserie, elephant ears are ready for the fryer and county residents are ready for the annual Kane County Fair, which starts this afternoon. The annual festive event, now in its 144th year, kicks off at 3 p.m. today and closes out July 22. Hours of operation are: Admission is $8 for the day, or a week’s pass can be purchased for $20. Admission for today though is only $5. Children under 5-years-old get in free. There are all day access passes available througout the week, including the $12 "Last Blast" deal on Sunday. The 143rd annual Kane County Fair and Festival in St. Charles ended Sunday after five days of fun amid sweltering heat and thunderstorms. Despite the weather, events such as the Big Hat Rodeo and 4-H blue ribbon competitions, as well as carnival rides and Smash ’Em Bash ’Em car demolition derby, continued as planned.
