A video tribute was presented to remember 20-year-old Chris Patterson, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in January during a mission in Afghanistan.
A local high school paid tribute during a Veterans Day ceremony to a 2009 graduate gone too soon. A video tribute for Spc. Christopher Patterson of North Aurora was presented Friday at West Aurora High School, the Daily Herald reports. Patterson's parents Bob and Mary, who works at the school, were present for the ceremony. Patterson was a Valparaiso University student and Indiana National Guardsman when his guard unit was called for duty in 2011. On January 6, 2012, Patterson and three other soldiers died when an improvised explosive device went off underneath their vehicle. Patterson was 20 years old. The Illinois House rose to their feet this week to recognize a 20 year-old-North Aurora man who did so much for classmates, colleagues and country. The House unanimously adopted a resolution honoring the life, service and sacrifice of Spc. Christopher Patterson. On Jan. 6, Patterson and three other soldiers died when a roadside bomb went off underneath his vehicle. He was 20. To read more about Spc. Patterson, click here. The staffs and students of West Aurora High School and Jefferson Middle School will stand outside at about 10:30 a.m. Friday when the body of West alumnus SPC Christopher Alexander Patterson is driven past the schools. SPC Christopher Alexander Patterson, age 20, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 while proudly serving his country in the Kandahar Province in Afghanistan. He was born April 17, 1991 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Robert and Mary (nee Schneider) Patterson. A 2009 graduate of West Aurora High School, Christopher was continuing his studies in music education at Valparaiso University in Indiana. He was a member of the professional music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and toured with the school’s premiere vocal ensemble, the Chorale. Christopher also composed and arranged music with a cappella group VuVox and for the West High STUDy Hall Choir. Those who want to pay their respects to a local soldier that died in Afghanistan can do so in Batavia next week. Visitation for Spc. Christopher Patterson will be held on Fri., Jan. 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 950 Hart Road, Batavia. The visitation will be held in the church’s sanctuary from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Patterson’s parents, Robert and Mary, brother Carl and more family members will be there to receive guests on Friday.
