SWEET! Genevan Finds $4.85 Million Lottery Ticket in His Cookie Jar

Winning ticket stashed away for more than three months.

OUTSIDE CHICAGO, IL -- “I can’t believe I had $4.85 million in a cookie jar for over three months!” said Ricardo Cerezo after recently checking some old Lottery tickets and discovering he had won a jackpot prize of $4,850,000 in the Feb. 2 Lotto drawing. “I’m awestruck, this is unbelievable!” Cerezo said. Today, May 15, 2013, Illinois Lottery officials presented him with a commemorative check at the Aurora 7-Eleven where he bought his winning ticket.  At his wife’s urging, Cerezo took 11 tickets that had accumulated in their cookie jar to the store to check them. The first seven tickets he scanned were not winners, but when he placed the eighth ticket under the scanner, the message “File a claim” appeared. “I thought I had probably won …

Luck O' the Irish? Batavian Wins Big in Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle

“I always play Raffle, I like the odds, especially now!” says Batavian Jeff White, who bought the ticket at the Batavia 7-Eleven.

The 7-Eleven streak of lottery winners in Batavia continues. “I always play Raffle, I like the odds, especially now!” said Jeff White after winning $100,000 playing the Illinois Lottery’s St. Patrick’s Day Raffle. White checked the list of 509 winning Raffle numbers on the Illinois Lottery’s website and discovered that one of them — 316771 — matched his Raffle number. “I couldn’t believe it,” he said. White has lived in Batavia for 11 years. He plans to invest the winnings for now.  When asked if he had any advice for other Lottery players he said, “You’ve got to be in the game to win, and it’s fun to win. Even if you just play one dollar a week, you can’t win if you don’t play.” The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven, 336 East …

A longtime Batavian has claimed what could be the city’s biggest Lotto prize. Ancelma Martinez is the winner of a $7.25 million Lotto jackpot, according to an Illinois Lottery news release sent on Tuesday. She won the Dec. 17 regular Lotto game drawing by matching all six numbers. “I was very surprised, I still can’t believe I won,” Martinez said in the release. The release said she almost spilled her coffee everywhere when she saw 2-15-18-23-50-52, aka the exact numbers on her ticket. The LOOTtery LIES when they say that LOOTtery money benefits schools. What difference does it make if the LOOTtery provides 9.6% or 96% of the state's annual contribution to K-12 public schools? Either way, the schools are in the same awful shape. The over-all school budget stays the same.   more ›
