Are Jenny McCarthy and Brian Urlacher Temporary Genevans?

The social media set around town says the couple is staying somewhere in the friendly confines of sleepy, enchanting Geneva, IL—at least for a few months.

By now, you're probably familiar with the rumor that one of the most famous couples on the planet is renting a place here in lovely Geneva, IL. Of course, since we value their privacy and would love for them to settle down here, we'll just keep it amongst ourselves, right? Jenny McCarthy—"Mommy warrior and cellulite killer," according to her Twitter account bio, plus actress, model, game-show host, author and soon-to-be-again Playboy centerfold subject—announced to the world on May 27 that she's dating Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher. According to numerous, unsubstantiated but very confident-sounding comments on Geneva Patch's Facebook page, Jenny and Brian are renting for three months here in Geneva. No one has said where, and if we knew, we …

Alternative Band to Hold Anti-Bullying Rally, Documentary Saturday in Geneva

Music by Sister Soleil, white-and-black ribbons, an anti-bullying theme, a documentary and an unusual venue make for an interesting event planned for Saturday afternoon in Geneva.

A popular Chicago band is holding an anti-bullying rally/recording session Saturday in Geneva. The alternative band Sister Soleil and Stella Katsoudas sent e-mail notices this week saying the rally/recording session would take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Glasswall Productions, Inc., 706 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. The 706 S. Batavia Ave. address in Geneva is described as a private home on the Zillo website. "All kids, parents, victims and supporters of anti-bullying, please come, make signs and posters, bring your stories if you want to share, tell your friends, your classmates, and we will together come up with tactics to fight back (non-violence,)" says the e-mail and Katsoudas' Facebook page notice. "If you can, bring…

I find it hard to believe this guy would risk his job and pension for $3,000 a year, unless there was a culture of acceptance for this type of activity. Otherwise the leadership in that department is completely incompetent. How can you not track expenses for eight years? These are our tax dollars being stolen. I agree with other comments, that there needs to be a complete audit top to bottom by a…   more ›

Jeff Ward: Notes on West Suburban Civilization

Jeff Ward: The Smart People Really Do Live in the Suburbs

When it comes to comparing the suburbs and the big city, Chicago doesn't have a sporting chance.

It always amazes me how a non sequitur sentence in a column can set off some overly sensitive, surly and snooty comments. To wit, in my recent Patch piece concerning the city of Chicago’s rabid revenue raising ruses, I uttered this simple, but obvious truth: “The smart people live in the suburbs for a reason.” And after they got a suburbanite to read the column to them, those Second City citizens shrieked and howled almost as if I'd said that Starbucks stopped serving Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mochas. (Chicagoans drink some rather strange things.) So now we know why they call it the “Windy City.” Ah, well! I suppose having to face a bitter truth can be difficult for folks who have to inhale bus fumes on a regular basis. In their …
