PHOTOS: Batavia vs. Downers Grove North

Here are some action shots from the Bulldogs' hard-fought battle on Friday.

Another great Batavia Football season came to a close on Friday. The Bulldogs battled the Downers Grove North Trojans on Friday at Batavia High School. In the end, the Trojans would emerge with a 38-26 victory. Although their playoff run ended too early, Batavia had an incredible regular-season run. They went undefeated for the second season in a row, even against top-ranked teams like Glenbard North. One things for sure, the Bulldogs give it their all. Thank you for supporting the football team and all Batavia athletics! A very special thanks goes to Debi Paradiso for these game photos. See coverage of the Bulldogs' 9-1 fall 2012 season.

Two points to make: 1. there were 2 Batavia Seniors who were suposedly acedemically inelligble for Friday night's play-off game and they were suited up and started. 2. Coach Piron did not play Seniors even when games were locked by a 35-0 score in the Senior game. I would say Coach Piron cursed this team to lose because of his own ego. I think Piron will not win another play-off game until he …   more ›

A Great Bulldogs Season Comes to An End

Downers North drops a bombshell on the Class 7A state football playoffs with its 38-26 win over No. 1 seed Batavia Friday.

Batavia Football's second season came to a hard-fought and emotional conclusion on Friday night. The Bulldogs finished round 1 of the Class 7A football playoffs 38-26 behind Downers Grove North. The Dogs (9-1) came off a second consecutive undefeated regular season and as a reigning state semifinalist. “Our kids didn’t play flat," Batavia Head Coach Dennis Piron said after the game. "(DGN) made some plays on us because they have some skill (players on offense). I don’t feel bad at all about this football game. I feel bad for the seniors. I have nothing but praise for our kids. I don’t want them to have any regrets.” David Edward closed out previously undefeated Batavia after Brandon Salter placed Downers Grove North in an enviable position…

FINAL: Bulldogs Fight For Win Against North Stars 35-20

Batavia Football goes hard on Senior Night Friday to remain undefeated. Here's what Coach Piron had to say about the team.

The Bulldogs varsity football team don't let anyone show them up at home, even teams with a three-game winning streak. The Dogs came through to beat the St. Charles North Stars 35-20. The teams played in front of a packed crowd at Batavia High School on Friday. "I’m very excited for our seniors on our Senior Night," said Dennis Piron, Batavia head football coach, after the game. "It’s unbelievable that we were able to come back this year and match the success of last season. Our players work through adversity. We’ve got juniors making huge contributions too." Batavia had five touchdowns with five extra points from senior kicker Dan Albrecht. Starting quarterback Micah Coffey even ran in a touchdown in the fourth quarter knowing he had …

The Bulldogs had no trouble holding the Royals at bay for their second shutout of the season.

The Batavia-Larkin game wasn't even close. The Bulldogs wiped the floor with the Royals on Friday, quickly building on their lead and keeping them scoreless to take a 48-0 win. Batavia put up seven touchdowns, with a side of extra-point kicks to all but one. It was 21-0 by the first quarter and 35-0 at halftime. Wow. Senior offensive tackle Adam Hunger ran in the first touchdown, followed by touchdowns from: This is the Bulldogs 2nd shutout of the season. On Sept. 14, they routed Streamwood 33-0. The varsity team also switched up their uniforms to "Black Out Cancer" during the game, held at Batavia High School. FINAL: Batavia Edges Out Lake Park 33-29

The Bulldogs defy the Lancers in their first-ever matchup on Friday to become playoff eligible. Here’s a recap.

Rain or shine, the Bulldogs battle through their football games. Nowhere was this more evident than in Friday’s soggy game, where the Dogs denied the Lancers a Senior Night victory with a 33-29 win. “I’m very proud of the kids,” said Dennis Piron, Batavia head football coach, in a phone interview during the ride back home. “Starting out the year 5-0 is a great feeling. It makes you playoff eligible … the season’s flying by.” The Bulldogs racked up five touchdowns and a couple extra points. Junior starting quarterback Micah Coffey connected with senior wide receiver Zach Strittmatter three times during the first half. Junior running back Anthony Thielk shone in the second half with two touchdown runs. Friday’s game was the Bulldogs' first …
