Three residents of an apartment where a home invasion took place earlier this month now face drug charges, police announced on Friday. Two of the three men charged were shot during an Oct. 2 home invasion at their apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road in North Aurora near the Fox River. "The investigation has determined that this home invasion was drug-related," a North Aurora Police Department statement said. "No further information is available at this time as to the offenders in the home invasion." Investigators are looking for two men in connection to the Oct. 2 incident on Route 25.
The two men who invaded an apartment and shot at two other men in North Aurora last week never found the item they were looking for, police said. The item the men demanded was not in the apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora Deputy Police Chief. Buziecki said he could not reveal what the item was, but said it was not in police custody last week. Buziecki also said there was no evidence of forced entry during the incident, which occurred at about 7 a.m. Oct. 2. The two men knocked on the door of an apartment in the building. Police on Wednesday released a possible motive for the Tuesday shooting and home invasion of two men in North Aurora. "Detectives believe that the motive for this crime was theft of an item," a North Aurora Police Department statement said. "It is also believed that the suspects have a connection to the victims, either direct or indirect." The two suspects went to the apartment of the two men, ages 22 and 23, and demanded they hand over an item. The item was not specified in the police statement. Multiple police departments in the Tri-Cities on Tuesday assisted with a day-long investigation into a home invasion and shooting in North Aurora. The photos on this page illustrate some of the police work completed outside a building on the 100 block of South River Road (Rt. 25 south of Batavia). The investigation findings are not public, but what police did reveal was that two men were shot by two other men in one of the building's apartments. The two people shot during Tuesday's home invasion in North Aurora survived, police said. A 22-year-old man was shot in the arm and another man, 23, was shot in the chest, according to a North Aurora Police Department press release. Officers were dispatched at 7:05 a.m. to an apartment building in the 100 block of South River Road (Rt. 25 south of Batavia) for the shooting. Officers discovered that the shooting took place in one of the apartments and that there were two men with gunshot wounds. The men were conscious and able to exit the building on their own. Geneva police arrested Salvador Mendez, 22, of St. Charles on a charge of disorderly conduct after the victim said Mendez displayed a handgun in a verbal altercation around 2:14 a.m. in the 50 block of North River Lane, reports said. Mendez “displayed what the victim believed to be a handgun after a verbal altercation with the victim,” the complaint said. “The subject displayed the weapon in such a manner to cause the victim to be alarmed and disturbed, concerned for his own safety and the safety of others, while provoking a breach of the peace.” Mendez has a court date of March 20 at the Kane County Branch Court, 530 S.
