71-Year-Old Motorcycle Driver Crashes on Blackman Road

A school bus is in the area but not involved in the crash, police say.

A 71-year-old motorcycle driver attempting to pass a vehicle crashed on Blackman Drive at the intersection of Blackman Court around 3:05 p.m. May 6, Geneva police reports said. Kenneth Musil, 71, of Geneva was driving a Honda CN250 east on Blackman Drive while a GMC Cutaway driven by Sandra Roman, 54, of Bartlett was stopped eastbound in the intersection of Blackman Drive waiting to turn left onto Blackman court. The motorcyclist attempted to pass the GMC on the left as the GMC was activating its turn signal, reports said. Musil “made an evasive action to avoid striking” the GMC, lost control and crashed on the driver’s right side of the motorcycle. Musil was taken to Delnor Hospital by Medic 251. RAW VIDEO—See a Hawk Dive Bomb an Eagle Along the Fox River

The eagles still are landing along the Fox River—and in this case, one is under attack.

After the emergency disaster drill Friday at Geneva Middle School South, AJ demanded a walk. So I took him on one of the usual routes to the Fox River, just to see how high the river might be. The answer to that one: Still pretty high. We couldn't get through to Division Street along the bike path—the river still was over the bank and the Fox River Trail. But on the way home, we saw a pair of eagles gliding overhead. They were much closer than you might think by looking at this video. I did my best to capture the majesty of the birds within the limits of my equipment and my talent. What you'll see here is something a bit unusual: a hawk, I think, dive bombing the eagle, which was clearly in hunt mode. Unfortunately, you'll have to look …

St. Peter School Dismisses Principal, Will 'Seek New Leadership'

For undisclosed reasons, St. Peter School in Geneva dismisses Principal Roseann Feldmann, who has agreed to stay on until the end of the school year.

St. Peter School will dismiss Principal Roseann Feldmann at the end of the school year. In a March 22 letter to St. Peter School parents, the Rev. Martins Emeh said he made the decision "to seek new leadership" for the school, which serves about 510 students in preschool through eighth grade.  "Roseann Feldmann will not be returning next year. I am personally appreciative and grateful for her devoted service at St. Peter School for the past five years," Emeh wrote. Feldmann agreed to continue at St. Peter School through the end of this academic year, the letter said. Emeh said the Catholic Education Commission supported the decision, but the reasons for the termination were not made public. "Per diocesan policy and applicable civil law, I …

MoveOn Plans 'Fiscal Showdown' Picket Monday at Hultgren's Geneva Office

The MoveOn political action group plans a "Tax the Wealthy" event at 10 a.m. Monday at 14th District Congressman Randy Hultgren's Geneva office at 1797 W. State St.

A political action group is planning to picket Monday in Geneva as part of 162 "Fiscal Showdown" events nationwide asking legislators "to vote to raise taxes on the wealthy to fix the deficit." MoveOn.org, one of the largest political action committees in the country, is making a local lobbying effort at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Geneva office of Republican 14th District Congressman Randy Hultgren. The office is located at 1797 W. State St. "Congress faces a fiscal choice—not a 'cliff'—about whether to end tax cuts for the rich or cut vital programs and delay tax extensions for working and middle class people," the MoveOn.org website says. "The GOP is holding us hostage again, and we could slide back into a recession if they win." …

World-Class Eater Devours Urban Grille's Behemouth Burger Challenge

Randy Santel goes into Geneva's Urban Grille on the day before Election Day and consumes 5 pounds of burger in 15 minutes.

Did you stuff yourself on Thanksgiving? Well, don't feel bad. It's comforting to know that anything you might have considered as overindulgence pales before the exploits of one Randy Santel. The St. Louis native recently completed his 122nd eating challenge at Geneva's very own Urban Grille and made short order of one very tall order—the heretofore challenging "Behemouth Burger." Here's the story, as told by the Urban Grille's Jeanette Di Pasquantonio in a Nov. 6 e-mail to Geneva Patch: Last night, a gentleman by the name of Randy Santel came into Urban Grille.  He was in town from St. Louis for a job interview in the city. As it turns out, Randy is the proprietor of Atlas & Zeus Promotions, LLC. I received a text from one of my servers …
