It's Police Week in the United States; in that spirit, we asked our local readers in Geneva, St. Charles and Batavia what they appreciate most about their local force.
Did you know that this week—May 13-20—is officially Police Week in the United States? According to PoliceWeek.org: In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. In the spirit of the week, we reached out to our St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia Patch readers on Facebook and asked what they appreciate most about the various Tri-Cities police departments. There are a few ways to eradicate the odor from your pet and remove it from your clothes and house, experts say.
It's skunk season in Batavia and Geneva, and there's nothing quite so bad as when your pet gets sprayed, brings it inside and you think nothing will make it go away. Do not add water. This solution can be used to wash skin, clothes, dogs, etc. that have been sprayed by skunks. Due to the peroxide, the solution may lighten the fur of pets. The Humane Society of the United States suggests the same solution. It also adds that if you don't have peroxide on hand, vinegar diluted with water will work. However, don't mix …

Plass Appliance is shuttering its store in Geneva and throughout the Chicago area and plans to focus its energies on a new location it has opened in Florida. The appliance store, which opened a showroom in Villa Park 1938, has locations in Elmhurst, Naperville, Geneva, Elmhurst, Addison and Northbrook. “We just made a decision that now was a good time to close,” said Dale Plass, company president. The announcement of the closure was made about a month ago, he said, adding he expects the stores to close in the next month or two. The company is advertising special liquidation sales with in-stock merchandise up to 30 percent off. “We opened a location in Florida and will probably focus our energy there,” he said, adding the Florida location …

About 80 Caribou Coffee stores will be closing Sunday, leaving employees uncertain about their futures.
Geneva's Caribou Coffee is among the surviving stores, but the Batavia Caribou Coffee shop on Randall Road is one of the casualties among 80 Caribou franchises that will close this weekend. Maggie at the Geneva Caribou said, "We're OK." An employee at the Batavia Caribou, who asked not to be named, said "all employees are going to be let go." Caribou employees are team members who do everything from tending the coffee bar to cooking food to serving customers at the register to cleaning up. Except for store managers, they are hourly employees. "Everybody has equal duties," the Batavia employee said. Asked what he or she would do after the final day, the employee said, "I have no idea." The company let Batavia employees know about the …
