Fire Causes $30,000 Damage to Division Street Home

The 2 a.m. Thursday fire at 1050 Division Street is contained to the garage and the cause remains under investigation.

The Geneva Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that resulted in about $30,000 damage to a home at 1050 Division Street in the wee hours of Thursday, May 23. Firefighters were dispatched to the home around 2:01 a.m. after a 911 report of a fire in the attached garage. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the garage, located the fire and contained it to the garage, according to a Geneva Fire Department press release issued Thursday by Deputy Chief Mark Einwich. Residents of the two-story home were inside at the time but were able to exit the building unharmed. There were no injuries to fire personnel on the scene. Fire Hits St. Charles Garage on South 6th Street

Neighbor and newspaper deliverer saw flames and called 911.

Authorities are investigating the cause of an early morning garage fire that caused an estimated $35,000 but caused no injuries. The fire at 202 S. 6th St. was reported simultaneously at 5:16 a.m. Friday by a neighbor and a newspaper deliverer, said interim St. Charles Fire Chief Joseph Schelstreet. Firefighters were on the scene four minutes later to find a two-car garage well-involved in fire, which also affected two vehicles in the driveway. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes, Schelstreet, although they stayed on the scene until after 7 a.m. as they performed overhaul and conducted the fire investigation.

Batavia Garage Fire on Thanksgiving Ends in $19,000 Damages

A fire on Thanksgiving Day damaged a garage and a vehicle on Batavia's east side, officials said. The fire occurred on the 500 block of North Washington Avenue (Route 25). The Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire there at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, according to a press release. The first unit on the scene reported a working fire to the rear of the home in a lower-level garage. The fire companies advanced a hose line to the rear of the structure to extinguish the blaze. This sounds like someone was trying to get out of debt. Knowing they couldn't just burn the car down or crash the car they decided to burn down their own garage. Everyone around this time have financial situations and this was there way out.   more ›
