A 162-acre piece of rural St. Charles property is now in the hands of the forest preserve. This week, the Forest Preserve District of Kane County picked up two large parcels of land for a total of more than $4 million. The former Swanson farm, which is about 162.6 acres at 6N327 Route 25, was bought from Oliver Hoffmann Corp. for about $3 million on Nov. 2. On Nov. 1, the District closed on a 93.9-acre addition to the Fitchie Creek Forest Preserve on Russell Road in Elgin. County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay promises transparency.
Kane County will start the long process of redistricting by establishing a special task force, officials said Tuesday. Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay appointed a task force to consider and make recommendations for redistricting, which is done every 10 years to coincide with the new U.S. Census population figures. Task force members are McConnaughay, Catherine Hurlbut, D-Elgin; James C. Mitchell Jr., R-North Aurora; John Hoscheit, R-St. Charles; Drew Frasz, R-Elburn; Hollie Lindgren, D-Carpentersville; Jesse Vazquez, D-Montgomery and Ron Ford, D-Aurora.
