The dog that attacked and killed a member of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District was euthanized by Kane County authorities last week. Lt. Pat Gengler of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the mastiff Dawn Brown and her husband took in only a week before the incident was put down by Kane County Animal Control over Thanksgiving. Brown, a 44-year-old firefighter/ paramedic for Bristol Kendall and the Big Rock Fire Protection District, died earlier this month from injuries sustained in an attack by the dog. Gengler said the six-year-old animal was put down at the request of Brown’s husband, not from a court order. The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District firefighter apparently killed by a bull mastiff in her home Monday will be remembered at a memorial this weekend. According the BKFD Facebook page, a memorial service for Dawn Brown is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at English Congregational Church, 301 Rhodes St. in Big Rock. Dawn Renee Brown, age 44, of Big Rock, IL died suddenly on Monday, November 12, 2012 at her residence. She was born August 1, 1968 in Aurora, IL. Dawn attended the English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, IL. She had worked at Nicor in Aurora, IL, Surplus Line Association in Chicago, IL and was a paramedic/firefighter with the Big Rock Fire Protection District in Big Rock, IL since 2003 and the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District in Yorkville, IL since 2007.
