Newtown Celebrates Acts of Kindness on Charlotte Bacon's Birthday [VIDEOS]

At Newtown Kindness's Charlotte Bacon Awards, parents Joel and JoAnn Bacon and grandparents Dan and Lindie Bacon, formerly of Batavia and St. Mark's Church in Geneva, remember her personality and thank organizers for their work.

Dan and Lindie Bacon are former missionaries of St. Mark's Church in Geneva and former residents of Batavia. They moved to Newtown, CT, last year to help raise their grandchildren, including 6-year-old Charlotte Bacon, who died in the shooting at Sandy Hill Elementary School in Newtown. Charlotte would have turned 7 on Feb. 22. About 100 people flocked to Newtown Healing Center this past weekend to celebrate Charlotte's birthday by recognizing random acts of kindness. Awards are given to kids who did special things to help others, from reading to senior citizens to simply opening the door. Charlotte Bacon Visitation Dec. 18, Memorial Service Dec. 19

Charlotte was a granddaughter of former Batavians. She was six years old.

The service and visitation information is from Honan Funeral Home in Newtown, Conn. Charlotte Helen Bacon, 6, died Friday, Dec. 14. She passed away with friends and classmates at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Charlotte was the daughter of Joel and Joanne Bacon, and the sister of Guy. She enjoyed expressing herself with the color pink and wanted to be a veterinarian. A visitation will be held for Charlotte from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. eastern time, Tues., Dec. 18, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown. A memorial service will take place there at 1 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 19. Interment will be at the Newtown Village Cemetery in Newtown. St. Mark's received donations to help some former members dealing with the loss of their granddaughter, Charlotte Bacon. She was one of the first-graders who died in the Dec. 14 Newtown school shooting.

St. Mark's Church in Geneva gathered donations to help some former members who lost a granddaughter in Friday's tragic shooting in Connecticut. Dan and Lindie Bacon are former St. Mark's missionaries and Batavia residents. They moved to Newtown, Conn., this year to help raise their grandchildren. One of those grandchildren, six-year-old Charlotte Bacon, was one of the 20 students who died in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. On Sunday the church received donations to purchase an airplane ticket for one of the family's sons living in Australia, and also for Charlotte's funeral, the Aurora Beacon-News reports.
