Delnor Bills '1 to 2 Times National Average,' New Database Reveals

A newly-released national database shows that there's a huge disparity in what hospitals charge patients for services. Delnor falls is the "1 to 2 times national average," according to the New York Times.

Delnor Hospital in Geneva charged more than the national average for the majority of 100 common procedures, according to statistics compiled and released Wednesday by the Obama administration. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services database includes more than 3,000 hospitals and reveals a signficant disparity in what hospitals charge for services. An article in the Huffington Post spotlights one of the more-dramatic examples: a $100,000 charge at Boyonne Hospital Center in New Jersey versus a $7,000 charge at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx for treatment of the same ailment—chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The two hospitals are less than 30 miles apart. Crain's Chicago Business reports Thursday the highest…

I've been to Stroger Hospital to visit my brother. Their facility, function and health care is not even close to your worse hospital experience. He nearly lost his life because they could not diagnose a bowel blockage and sent him home after 3 days of no care and unidentifiable food. This is in addition to the huge amount of time he spends waiting. This is not the way a cancer patient should be …   more ›

According to Crain’s, the $27 million Central DuPage project also includes moving outpatient behavioral health programs closer to the hospital's mental health unit and building out additional offices for physicians and administrators. The 25-bed expansion would increase the size of the mental health …

James Your comment shows that you have no understanding of what "some want" for the Geneva School District. I am in the process of writing a letter to the editor on what some people want and have been asking for for at least 4 years. Lets see if the Patch will post it!   more ›
