Batavia Mom Becomes Newest Member of BPS 101 School Board

The Batavia School Board announced Tuesday that it has filled the vacancy left by Jayne Resek. Resident Tina Bleakley will serve the remainder of Resek's term. Bleakley was on hand Tuesday at the School Board meeting when the announcement was made. Bleakley's appointment to the Board is effective July 24 until the April 9, 2013 city elections. Resek's seat and three other incumbent seats will be up for reelection next year. Bleakley was one of eight candidates interviewed for the vacancy. She has lived in Batavia for eight years and has three daughters in the school district. Batavia School Board Member Jayne Resek Resigns, District Seeks Replacement

Resek steps down Tuesday after 11 years on the School Board. The district has 45 days to find a replacement.

Batavia Public Schools is in search of a new School Board member after one of its veterans resigned this week. Jayne Resek announced her resignation at the Batavia School Board meeting on Tuesday night. She turned in her formal notice Wednesday morning, Batavia Superintendent Jack Barshinger said. Resek resigned in part for family reasons—she is taking care of her elderly mother. She has served on the Board for 11 years. Resek plans to stay on the Board until the district finds a replacement. To that end, the district announced a search on Wednesday to fill the vacancy left by Resek. The person selected to take Resek's place will serve until the April 9, 2013 election. UPDATE: Batavia Hires Another New Elementary Principal

The new lineup of principals for Batavia's elementary schools is now complete. Tim McDermott will become the new principal of H.C. Storm Elementary School. The Batavia School Board approved his employment during its monthly meeting Tuesday night. McDermott is currently the Student Services Coordinator at Gombert Elementary School in Indian Prairie School District #204. His annual salary in Batavia will be $95,000, according to the School Board's Tuesday meeting packet. McDermott joins two other new principals hired in May—Jeff Modaff and Nicole Prentiss. Modaff will be Grace McWayne School's principal and Prentiss will become principal of J.B. Nelson School. McDermott rounds out the revised Batavia elementary school principal roster. This …

Batavia Hires 2 New Principals For Elementary Schools

Meet the new leaders of J.B. Nelson and Grace McWayne elementary schools.

Batavia Public Schools has selected two new elementary-school principals for the next school year. Jeff Modaff will become principal of Grace McWayne School and Nicole Prentiss will become principal of J.B. Nelson School. The schools' current principals, Kevin Skomer and Melissa Kaczkowski, were transferred within the district. The Batavia School Board on Tuesday voted to approve Modaff and Prentiss' employment. Modaff's annual salary will be $102,500, and Prentiss' annual salary will be $95,000, according to the School Board's Tuesday meeting packet. Modaff is currently the principal of the Brokaw Early Learning Center in Oswego. Prentiss is currently the assistant principal of Nicholas A. Hermes Elementary School in Aurora. Modaff and …

Batavia Schools Transfer Another Principal

This is the 4th principal to be promoted or transferred for next year. Some other administrators will move as well. Here are the details.

Batavia Public Schools is in search of not one, but two new elementary principals next year. On Tuesday the Batavia School Board approved the following transfers: District leaders began to discuss the principal selection process with staff and parents at J.B. Nelson and Grace McWayne, the other Batavia school that will get a new principal this year. Kaczkowski has been J.B. Nelson’s principal for six years. “It will be hard to leave my team at JBN, but leading the elementary student services team is a very exciting opportunity,” Kaczkowski said in an online message to district residents. Batavia School Board Approves Principal Swap

Batavia School Board members on Tuesday approved the transfer of some elementary school principals. Here are the ones affected and why.

Three Batavia elementary school principals will leave their buildings at the end of this school year for other positions in the district. The district is now in search of a principal for Grace McWayne School. The position will be posted today (Wednesday) or Thursday, said Batavia Superintendent Jack Barshinger. The Batavia School Board on Tuesday approved the Barshinger-recommended transfers during their regular meeting. “I will miss working at H.C. Storm, which I have called home for the past 18 years,” Sikorski said in an online message to school district residents. Based on the new Performance Evaluation Reform Act and other Senate Bill 7 requirements, the district must build elementary capacity to implement a new teacher appraisal …

Budget Deficit Shrinks For Batavia Public Schools

The school district finally receives a cluster of state aid payments, months after the School Board had to make tough staff and program cuts.

Batavia Public Schools has some good budget news ... kind of. The district has a smaller deficit than originally projected because delayed payments from the state finally arrived. Kris Monn, the district's assistant superintendent for finance, provided details on the deficit change in a presentation Tuesday to the Batavia School Board. After several program and staff cuts, district initially projected a budget deficit of $2.47 million for this 2011-12 school year. But after receiving unexpected state reimbursement and aid checks, the current deficit projection is $1.048 million. This is about $1.4 million less than originally expected.
