Armed Robbery Reported at 7-Eleven on Butterfield Road

A man pointed a semi-automatic gun at a clerk, police said. Here's a suspect description.

A 7-Eleven store in North Aurora was robbed Thursday morning, according to police. The robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven on 718 Butterfield Road. This is in the plaza on the southwest corner of Butterfield and Hart/Mitchell roads. North Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:35 a.m., according to a police statement released Friday afternoon. "Upon arrival, officers learned that at approximately 5:15 a.m., a male wearing a mask entered the store and pointed a small black gun at (a store clerk)," the statement said. "The suspect demanded cash from the register and the clerk complied, giving him an undetermined amount of cash." Batavians React to Bank Robbery at Old Second National

Last week's armed robbery has motivated residents to be more cautious. Here's what they had to say.

Batavia residents were disturbed last week with the news that a bank in town had been robbed at gunpoint. Resident Michelle Brogan was on her way to pick up some pizzas Dec. 22 when she saw police vehicles and cones blocking the entrance to Old Second National Bank on Batavia's east side. "It does make me nervous," Brogan said. At about 10 a.m. on Dec. 22, a man whose face was mostly covered walked into the bank with a black semi-automatic handgun. He left the bank with an unknown amount of cash and fled in a small four-door white or light-colored sedan, according to police. Batavia police and the FBI continue to investigate the robbery. Batavia Police Investigate Bank Robbery Dec. 22 (PHOTOS)

Batavia police were at the scene of an east-side bank robbery for over four hours on Saturday, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence. Patrol cars, unmarked cars and the Batavia police crime scene investigation SUV gathered in the parking lot of Old Second National Bank, located on the 1000 block of East Wilson Street. This is where the armed robbery took place, sometime before 10:08 a.m. Dec. 22. A man dressed in a black hoodie, his face mostly covered, came into the bank with a black semi-automatic handgun, according to police. He fled with an unknown amount of money. Another photo of the male suspect in the weekend armed robbery in Batavia was posted online. The second image, shown here on this page, is of the suspect at a teller’s window on Saturday inside the Old Second National Bank location on the 1000 block of East Wilson Street. In his right-gloved hand, he holds a black semi-automatic handgun on the counter. The suspect took an unknown amount of money and fled the bank, according to police. Officers responded to the bank at 10:08 a.m. Saturday. The suspect was described as 25-30 years old, 5'9'' to 5'10'' wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a black scarf covering his face and blue jeans. The robbery occurred on Saturday, and the suspect had a semi-automatic handgun, police said. Here's a description.

A bank on Batavia's east side was robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning, police said. The robbery occurred at the Old Second National Bank on the 1000 block of East Wilson Street. Officers reported to the scene at 10:08 a.m., according to a Batavia police news release. "The offender displayed a black semi-automatic handgun," the release said. "An unknown amount of currency was taken. No injuries were reported." The offender left the area possibly in a white or light-colored, smaller four-door sedan, police said. Palm Prints Lead to Robbery Suspect, Police Say

This man has been charged in connection with a May 2012 armed robbery in a St. Charles parking lot.

A 32-year-old Glendale Heights man has been charged with armed robbery after his palm prints matched those found on property stolen from the victim during an armed robbery on West Main Street in May, police said. Antwon D. Powell, of the 2100 block of Roland Drive, Glendale Heights, was taken into police custody without incident Tuesday night, Dec. 11, 2012, St. Charles police announced in a release issued late Thursday afternoon. He is charged with armed robbery with a firearm, a Class X felony. Powel's bail was set at $500,000 in court Wednesday at the Kane County Judicial Center. A 7-Eleven store in North Aurora was robbed Monday morning, according to police. The robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven on 2 S. Lincolnway, located at the southwest corner of Lincolnway (Route 31) and State Street (Route 56). North Aurora patrol officers were dispatched to the scene at 9:57 a.m., according to a police statement released this afternoon. "Upon arrival, officers learned that at approximately 9:40 a.m. a female store employee was robbed outside of the store as she was transporting store money to the bank," the statement said. A man robbed a bank in West Chicago on Tuesday morning, according to police. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash from Fifth Third Bank, 1800 N. Neltnor Blvd. (Route 59) in West Chicago. West Chicago police officers responded to the bank at about 10:35 a.m. Tuesday for a report that the robbery had just occurred, according to a press release. Officers learned the man had entered the bank and passed a note to a teller demanding money. Accused Batavia Man's 'Keep on Shroom-in' Shirt Explained

The shirt worn in Zachary Schulz's police photo is actually sold by a pizza restaurant. Schulz faces an attempted armed robbery charge following a July 10 incident in Batavia.

The shirt worn by a 20-year-old in a Batavia Police photo that references "shroom-in'" actually came from a major restaurant franchise. Zach Schulz of Batavia had a green shirt on that said "Keep On Shroom-in'" when police took his photo on July 10. The shirt was ridiculed in the comments section of the first story, on Facebook and Twitter. The "Keep On Shroom-in'" shirt is sold by Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, a restaurant with locations in 17 states and Washington, D.C. (The closest location to Batavia is about four hours away in Carmel, IN.) Some Mellow Mushroom locations are adorned in tye-dye and mushrooms. UPDATE: Accused Man in Attempted Batavia Robbery Out of Jail, Weapon Was Knife

Zachary Schulz of Batavia is out on $5,000 bond. Here are some new details about the incident.

The Batavia man facing an attempted robbery charge was released from the Kane County Jail on Wednesday following a court appearance. Zachary Schulz, 20, posted $5,000 to leave the jail, 10 percent of the $50,000 bail set by Judge John Walters. Schulz, of the 700 block of Houston Street, is charged with one count of attempted armed robbery—no firearm, according to court records. At about 2 a.m. on July 10, Schulz approached a woman in a vehicle outside the downtown Chase Bank, 130 S. Batavia Ave., police said. The woman told police that Schulz was armed with a knife.
