Wilson brings his "uncanny" gift of music to his former home.
Playing to a sold-out, standing-room-only crowd at the Arcada Theatre, Brian Wilson showed the audience that he's still got it after all these years. Most of the audience was decidedly "mature," wearing signature Beach Boys surfer shirts. But once the music started with songs like "California Girls," the place was rockin'. Described as having an "uncanny gift for harmonic invention and complex vocal and instrumental arrangements" on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website, Wilson is considered by many to be one of the most influential songwriters of our time. Comedian Don Rickles will perform a Las Vegas-style show with a full orchestra at 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Arcada Theatre in downtown St. Charles. Rickles, an insult comic sometimes called “Mr. Warmth,” is known for his sharp wit and his performances on The Tonight Show and multiple other television programs. According to a Rickles’ website, he studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and played occasional bit parts on television before trying stand-up comedy to make up for the lack of available acting work. While establishing a comedy career, he developed his caustic style in response to hecklers. He fully developed his insult comedy after he realized the audience thought the interaction with hecklers was funnier than his material…
