POLICE: Man Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Tri-Cities Restaurant

An employee of a St. Charles pub was robbed and assaulted Friday night. Here are the details.

Police are in search of two suspects who robbed an employee at gunpoint outside of a St. Charles restaurant Friday night. An employee of Rookies Restaurant, 1545 W. Main St., St. Charles, attempted to enter his vehicle after he closed down the restaurant, according to police. He was approached by two black males who demanded money and car keys. At least one of the men was armed with a pistol, according to police. During the robbery one of the suspects struck the victim in the face with his fist. The two suspects were wearing dark clothing and had their faces concealed, police said. The offenders were last seen running southeast through the parking lot from the scene. Batavia police officers responded to the following incidents on May 3 and early morning May 4. Here they are in chronological order: May 3 10:10 a.m.—Fraud A scam claiming that someone won money was reported from the Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway. 2nd Batavia Police Officer Suspended for Separate Crash

The latest suspension will last two days. Another officer received a suspension for an unrelated crash on March 30.

Another Batavia police officer has received a suspension following a crash last month involving some police vehicles. Officer Thomas Doggett has received an unpaid two-day suspension, said Dan Eul, Batavia deputy police chief. The suspension will occur at the end of the month. According to a crash report, Doggett was behind the wheel of the at-fault vehicle in an April 12 crash on Batavia's west side. Doggett's police SUV made contact twice with a Batavia squad car at the intersection of Lincoln and Houston streets. The vehicles were en route to an emergency call. Doggett slowed down but did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection, according to a crash report. Doggett has been with the Batavia Police Department since 1997. This is not …

Batavia Youths Cited for Underage Drinking in Geneva

Police reports: A DUI and a liquor act violation were among the items in the Geneva police blotter.

Two alcohol-related incidents were among the Geneva police reports collected last week. DUI—Geneva police arrested Gerald Foster, 66, of Geneva on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended or revoked license and transportation of open liquor after a traffic stop around 10:16 a.m. April 26 in the 300 block of Cambridge Drive, reports said. Foster has a court date of May 16 at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38, St. Charles. Liquor Act Violation—Two youths were cited for possession of alcohol by a minor around 3:53 a.m. April 29 in the 1100 block of Greenfield Circle, Geneva police reports said. Passenger Tells Police Driver of Friday's One-Car Crash Fell Asleep Behind Wheel

Geneva police on Monday named the driver and passenger of Friday's one-vehicle crash that severely injured the two young women. The crash remains under investigation. The passenger, from Batavia, was listed in critical condition Monday night.

The passenger of the car that barreled through a stop sign and crashed into trees at Dodson and Bennett streets Friday told police that the 20-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel. The Chevrolet Cavalier that ran through the stop sign around 10:30 a.m. Friday was driven by Nicole Weisner, 20, of Geneva, with Lindsey Vanderheyden, 22, of Batavia, as passenger. According to a witness, the Cavalier drove through the stop sign at the T-end of Dodson Street, ran headlong across Route 25—North Bennett Street in Geneva—"at a high rate of speed" and crashed into trees next to a driveway of a home across the street. Batavia police officers responded to the following incidents on April 26: 8:26 a.m.—Residential Burglary The following items were taken from a residence on the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle on Batavia's west side: Further information on this incident was not available. 10:25 a.m.—Traffic Arrest A 27-year-old Aurora man is headed to court after an incident on the west side. Ricardo Melendez, of the 700 block of North Randall Road in Aurora, was cited for no valid driver's license and speeding. 3RD UPDATE: Helicopter Carries Injured Woman From High-Speed, One-Car Crash at Dodson and Bennett

A car hurdles across Route 25 on Friday and crashes at high speed. Two women in their 20s were injured. At least one was taken away by medical helicopter from Geneva's State Street bridge.

Two young women were pulled from a car that struck a large tree next to a driveway at 227 N. Bennett Street in Geneva after hurtling across Route 25 and crashing at a high rate of speed around 10:30 a.m. Friday, a witness and Geneva police said. As of 10:45 a.m. the driver of the vehicle had been extricated and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora while firefighters worked to free the passenger. The passenger was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove via a medical helicopter that landed on Geneva's State Street bridge and took off around 11:20 a.m. A witness to the crash said she was driving her motorcycle north on Route 25—Bennett Street in Geneva—when she saw the red car come down the hill at …

Kane County Will Allow Cameras in Courtrooms

Chief Judge Robert Spence says Kane will join Illinois Supreme Court's pilot program.

Chief Judge Robert B. Spence announced Thursday that the 16th Judicial Circuit will apply to join the Illinois Supreme Court’s pilot program to allow cameras in the courtroom. The decision is based on the recommendation of the 16th Judicial Circuit Courtroom Media Committee.  “I appreciate the Media Committee’s work on this, and based on its recommendation, the 16th Circuit will apply to join the pilot program,” Spence said. “The committee will continue in its work on this, as we will need some rather detailed rules concerning the plan’s logistics. 19-Year-Old Batavia Woman Charged With Knife Assault in Geneva

An incident disturbingly similar to the alleged stabbing murder in Batavia took place April 26 in Geneva, when a Batavia woman drew a knife on a victim and subsequently was charged with aggravated assault. Geneva police arrested Brittany Maberry, 19, of Batavia, on charges of aggravated assault following an incident at about 3:40 a.m. April 26 in the 200 block of Anderson Boulevard, Geneva police reports said. Police said Maberry used a deadly weapon in that she knowingly brandished a black Smith & Wesson folding knife with a 3-inch blade at the victim and placed the victim “in reasonable apprehension of battery.” Mayberry also was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor, which carries a $250 fine if paid by the due date.
