This is a sad story. I wonder if Ray played at the casino often. I used to be a dealer in theRead More casino, very depressing job. The casino's make players their best friend and then when your money is gone they have no use for you. I hope the state grants 1 liscense to Chicago, at least a lot of the players will be tourists and it will not affect the local residents as much as the other casino's in Illinois.

Rico Suave April 6, 2014 at 07:24 pm People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only becauseRead More rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. Remember this Benny G and all you other scum sucking Liberals out there. The police in these ghetto areas are chasing them down every night in an attempt to keep them from coming into your so called safe areas. Appreciate their sacrifices and don't give this white Fucktard the time of day. Hey Kenneth! Love teh comments... Who else would say fucktard on here?

Benny G. I think you hate the police because your dad was a abusive cop who poked you in the assRead More when you were growing up.

This makes as much sense as charging someone with murder if you sell them a gun and they commitRead More suicide. And do you think people will call an ambulance to help someone that has overdosed, or get out of there before they are charged with murder?
Geneva Dad April 7, 2014 at 01:10 pm
So, if someone buys alcohol and drinks it with their friends and one of their friends dies fromRead More alcohol poisoning, could that someone that bought and shared the alcohol be charged with alcohol induced homicide?

@ knee jerk. Although the upper limit IQ for officers is 105, the target IQ is between 94-98. TheRead More average IQ of a U.S. citizen is 100. Whenever you are speaking to a police officer, you are most likely speaking to someone with an IQ considerably Lower than your own. Please remember to speak slowly, always try to limit the amount of syllables in each word to less than three, and try not to laugh... Cuz They get Really Paranoid. Must be the drugs.

Does anything happen in Darien anymore?! I never see any articles about anything happening inRead More Darien, the Lion's Club pancake breakfast, the armed robberies at the gas stations, the 75th St. construction, city council budget, anything Darien related! How can you call this the Darien Patch when there is nothing about Darien in. Every other town or city has a Patch site that has articles related to their town. We get lazy editors who just copy and paste from other news sites.
Kelly O' March 30, 2014 at 06:17 pm
You don't have a lot of crime in Darien. Thank your lucky stars.
Dennis Robaugh (Editor) March 30, 2014 at 11:13 pm
@Bambi: OMGPD is a feature that recounts some of the more unusual crime stories in the Chicago-areaRead More suburbs. It's appeared weekly in your Deerfield Patch for about 2 years. @Adam West: I will email you directly with more information about Darien Patch, one of the Patches in the region that has been without a full-time editor for the last year.

good, wish it were for longer, too many times I read that a judge feels sorry for the perpetratorRead More and they don't get any or so little time in jail that the deterrent for others is non-existent. This guy could have killed any of us with his irresponsible behavior.
Ed March 27, 2014 at 08:36 pm
I guess I don't understand 12 years for killing an 11 year old. he basically murdered the victim. IRead More don't get it.

Actually, today (April 4th) she WAS fired. However, I find it a great example of ridiculous unionRead More rules that it took them this long to do so.
Tom RS. April 5, 2014 at 09:13 am
She will have cost all us taxpayers a lot of money when this is all done. Millions in lawsuits andRead More probably a million plus in repairs to the system. I could be wrong, but maybe a little more training and evaluation needs to be implemented before someone is turned loose at the controls...

Arthur....the complaint about unions is that they defend employees such as her....she should haveRead More been fired the first time! She has people's lives in her hands....unions make it impossible to weed out bad employees...
Arthur Huff March 27, 2014 at 09:51 am
Deerfield, if it comes out that the union had a role in what happened in February being handled theRead More way it was then I'm right there with you. But we don't know that yet. All we know now is that the CTA handled it that way, we don't know why. For what it's worth, and I'm just pointing out facts for the sake of the discussion, in this crash and the one in New York it was a union official who told the press that the operator dozed off. Doesn't sound like they were trying to protect either of them, does it? In both of these cases they could just give us the standard "we are still trying to determine the cause blah blah blah" but in both cases they admitted right away that the driver was totally at fault. I'm not saying unions are perfect and don't obstruct weeding out bad employees, i.e teachers and tenure, but in this case we have no indication YET that it played a role.
Sue1 March 28, 2014 at 10:25 am
It would be interesting to get a copy of their contract. I would bet they have some sort ofRead More progressive discipline language in it, which would explain why she wasn't fired after the first incident.

It is nice to see the founding fathers were smart in making the protection of ones home and lifeRead More part of the constitution. I bet we do not see gun control advocates commenting about how wrong this situation is.
Jordan S. Zoot March 25, 2014 at 07:13 pm
The only sad aspect to his story is that the burglar wasn't killed.
Lou B. March 29, 2014 at 01:24 pm
My understanding of gun ownership requirements is that no enforceable action that can be takenRead More against an Illinois resident who maintains a gun for protection in one's own home - regardless of FOID card ownership. The natural right to self defense has been recognized and codified by the founders, and today, even among liberals and other 2nd amendment deniers, the right to self preservation is seen as unimpeachable.
