Weekender Picks: Water Street Anniversary Show, Pet Blessings, BFD Open House

And the Batavia Fox River Cleanup is Saturday!

It's great weather for apple picking in the Batavia area or visiting pumpkin patches and corn mazes. There is just so much to do in the month of October.

Friday, Oct. 4


  • Pet Blessing on Feast of St. Francis of Assisi — St. Peter Church in Geneva will have a Pet Blessing at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. This custom is in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. The saint’s feast day is celebrated on this date.

Saturday, Oct. 5


  • Batavia's Fox River Cleanup Is Oct. 5 — Friends of the Fox River (FOFR), in conjunction with the city of Batavia, is sponsoring a clean-up along the Fox River in Batavia. Meet  at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Blackard Skate & Bike Park, 411 S. River St. Batavia.
  • www.nami5k.comCome help support and promote NAMI-DKK, National Alliance on Mental Illness. Serving the counties of DEKALB, KANE South and KENDALL Counties. Wonderful flat course around the Fox River.

Sunday, Oct. 6


  • Batavia Fire Department Open House — The Batavia Fire Department will be hosting an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Station Two, 1400 Main St. Activities will include station tours, touch-a-fire truck, demonstrations and more.
  • Blessing of the Animals — This one is the St. Mark's annual festivities. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the lawn of the old courthouse on Third Street.
