Weekend Fun: Corn Boil, Concours d'Elegance and Elburn Family Summer Fest

There's a ton of things to do in and around Batavia from Friday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Think summer is over now that school has started? Well, think again!

There’s plenty of options on your plate as you prepare for the weekend, including the Concours d'Elegance. Check out some of your options for your agenda this week:


Friday, Aug. 23, 2013


5 p.m. — Batavia Corn Boil — 1201 Main St., Wilson Street side of Batavia High School. The Batavia High School Corn Boil is a community event that traditionally signals the beginning of the fall sports season!

6 to 8 p.m. — STC Live! brings more local entertainment to liven up downtown St. Charles during the evening, thanks to the Downtown St. Charles Partnership. Friday, Last Night's Fun comes to First Street Plaza, where it will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Meantime, Dubble Trebble will perform at Blue Goose Market, 300 S. 2nd St., also from 6 to 8 p.m.

8 p.m. — SInger/songwriter Tom Fuller comes home to Geneva. The Tom Fuller Band concert at EvenFlow Music and Spirits will start with an opening band at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.  EvenFlow is located at 302 West State St., Geneva, IL  60134.  Tickets are available at EvenFlow and only cost $7.  


8 p.m. — The Best of Second City: Chicago's best-loved comedy group returns for a night of their unique brand of hilarity in The Best of Second City on the Main Stage at Pheasant Run Resort and Spa, 4051 E. Main St. (Route 64). From the company that launched the careers of Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, and more, comes the next generation of the comedy world's best and brightest in an evening of hilarious sketch comedy and Second City's trademark improvisation. Rated R.

Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013


7 a.m. to noon — Run 4 Kids - 5k Run / 1 Mile Walk at 2422 W. Main St. Registration starts at 7, race steps off at 8.

8 a.m. to 10 a.m. — Louise White School PTO Pancake BreakfastLWS plans a free pancake breakfast 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Commons area.

8 a.m. to noon — Farmers’ Market is ongoing on River Street in Batavia.

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Elburn Family Summer Fest takes place at Heritage Prairie Farm, 2N308 Brundige Road, just south of Route 38, about 2.5 miles west of Randall Road. 

9 a.m. — Wasco Baseball Responsible Sports grant presentation: Liberty Mutual Insurance will present a $2,500 check to Wasco Baseball for the Spring Community Grant program at Wasco Elementary School Field 4, 4N782 School St., Wasco.


9 a.m. to noon — Free Electronics Recycling Event: At We Grow Dreams Greenhouse & Garden Center, 1055 West Washington St., West Chicago.


3 p.m. — Complimentary Screening of The Dream Is NowSt. Charles Public Library, 1 S. 6th Ave., St. Charles, Huntley Meeting Room, lower level. Documentary showing the human face of immigration reform and the current debate.


7 p.m. — TriCity Family Services Trivia Night — Join TCFS for an informal, fun competition where your team of 6-8 people (10 people maximum) will battle other teams to see who has the greatest knowledge of all things trivial. 

Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013


8 a.m. to 2 p.m. — The Geneva French Market takes place every Sunday rain or shine now through Nov. 10. The French Market features farm fresh produce, fresh flowers, baked goods, jewelry, handcrafted items and more. The French Market is held in the parking lot at South Street and Fourth Street at the Metra Station.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Concours d'Elegance: Classic Car enthusiasts will gather together August 25th in Geneva, Illinois to view a beautiful collection of antique, classic and modern automobiles. Participants from all over the country will display their automobiles on Third Street, hoping to be awarded one of the coveted "Benz" trophies.


2 p.m. — 
The Artful SongRobert Olivera sings the songs made famous by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine and more at the Batavia Public Library.

5 p.m. — Arcada Cabaret with Johnny Maggio: Everyone's favorite crooner, Onesti Entertainment's Johnny Maggio, sings the classics at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St.
