Aug. 8, 2013, Is 'PATRICK KANE COUNTY DAY'

Kane County honors the Blackhawks player who shares its name.

Be sure to wish everyone you know a happy Patrick Kane County Day on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013.

Yes, Kane County is honoring good old No. 88 of the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks with a day that shares the name of the player and the county.

A little weird, perhaps, but a lot of fun, as well.

On July 9, the Kane County Board unanimously passed a resolution proclaiming Aug. 8, 2013, as “PATRICK KANE COUNTY DAY," in all-caps no less, to show appreciation for Kane's "dedication to his sport and the great fans in Blackhawk Country," according to a Kane County press release.

"Kane County is proud to honor the tremendous achievement of winning the Stanley Cup in 2010 and 2013 by the Chicago Blackhawks. And, with a name shared between our county and one of the great players of the Chicago Blackhawks, Kane County is honoring Patrick Kane, No. 88, by
flying a Championship Flag at the Government Center in Geneva on 8/8/13."

Kane, of course, scored the Stanley Cup winning goal on June 9, 2010, in overtime and followed up that historic goal nearly a year-to-the day later by scoring a hat-trick with the winning goal in a double-overtime game to secure the Western Conference Championship on June 8, 2013.

Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen was among the head cheerleaders.

“We are truly excited and proud to honor Patrick Kane in this way because of his fantastic accomplishments as part of such a great team,” he said.

Kane was a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy presented each year to the "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."

He also won the 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Chicago Blackhawks made history by starting the 2013 hockey season with the best regular season start of 24 games without a regulation loss. Then, they made history again by ending the season on June 24, 2013, when the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins with two goals in a span of 17 seconds to win the Stanley Cup for the second time in four seasons.

"The people of Kane County, Illinois are proud to be part of Blackhawk Country and appreciate the hard work and dedication necessary to succeed and are honored to witness championships," the press release said.
