PHOTO STORY: Fantastic, Breakout Year for Batavia in Cross Country

Boys finish 23rd in Class 3A; girls Roman, Rea finish strong as individuals.

2013 was a breakout year for Batavia cross country, as the Bulldogs boys made it to the state meet Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria and two girls finished strongly as individuals over the 3-mile course.

Batavia boys finished as the 23rd-best cross country team in Class 3A, the largest division in the Illinois High School Association competition.

Twenty-six schools competed, with Hinsdale Central High School taking first place for the boys and Glenbard West taking the girls team trophy.

  • Mitch Zabka finished 82nd, with a time of 15:31.
  • Ryan Wietes finished 124th, with a time of 15:47.
  • Patrick Redmond finished 140th, with a time of 15:53.
  • Jordan Berendt finished 157th, with a time of 15:59.
  • David Morrison finished 186th, with a time of 16:18.
  • Mitch Vollinger finished 196th, with a time of 16:27.
  • Chris Orlow finished 205th, with a time of 16:43.

Batavia Girls Results


  • Dakota Roman finished 65th with a time of 18:13.
  • Miranda Rea finished 95th with a time of 18:26.

The top girls finisher was Mimi Smith of New Trier, with a time of 14:43; the top boys finisher was Patrick Perrier of O'Fallon, with a time of 14:21.
