State Superintendent Honors Five Batavia Schools
The Batavia elementary schools that made the Honor Roll were: Alice Gustafson, J.B. Nelson, Grace McWayne, Hoover Wood and Louise White.
Five Batavia schools were honored Thursday for making the 2010 Illinois Honor Roll.
, , , and elementary schools were named to the list for their "remarkable" achievement in academic excellence, said Christopher Koch, the Illinois state superintendent of education. Koch spoke during a presentation at a St. Charles school on Thursday.
Speaking before a gymnasium full of elementary school students, Koch talked about the 19 schools from the Tri-City school districts who kept up a high academic performance over at least three years. He also recognized Batavia's achievement of reaching 100 years as a school district.

"This is about your achievement," Koch said at the ceremony, referring to students at the schools.
"This kind of academic achievement requires that everyone at school and at home is working extraordinarily hard to keeping growing and learning," Koch said in a release.

While more than 830 schools in the state made the honor roll, only about half of those schools received the Academic Excellence award, including all 19 area schools.
Six Geneva schools and eight St. Charles schools round out the rest of the list. A complete listing of the 2010 schools can be found at ilhonorroll.niu.edu.
