School Board Briefs: AGS Principal Resigns, Pricey Hot Lunches

New textbooks also go on display at the high school.

Here's some of the action and information from the April 12 Batavia School Board meeting:

Alice Gustafson's Principal Steps Down

The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Christine Ralston, Principal of , effective June 30. Ralston told the AGS community sometime before the meeting that her husband accepted a job outside the area, so she will be moving.

Hot Lunch Prices Climb Higher

The Board supported increasing the school meal price by 15 cents. The district expects about 3 percent fewer students to receive lunch due to the increase. It has been three years since the price has increased, according to a memo from Pat Browne, Batavia Public Schools director of buildings and grounds.

New Textbooks On Display

The Board approved displaying new textbooks for one month at . The school hopes to receive the public’s input on the following texts:

  • Starting Out with Visual Basic, 2010 for Computer Programming
  • Geometry, for Enjoyment and Challenge, New ed. for Geometry Honors
  • Foundations of Restaurant Management/Culinary Arts, Level 1 and 2 for Food Service 1 & 2
  • Introduction to Business for Introduction to Business
  • Out of Many: A History of American People, 6th ed. For AP U.S. History
  • Living in the Environment, 2012 for AP Environmental Science
  • Chemistry, the Central Science, 11th ed. for AP Chemistry

 High Student Handbook Receives Update

The Board voted to approve changes to the High School Student Handbook. The following changes have been made:

  • The district changed the visitor check-in policy to notify people on the correct procedures for visiting the high school
  • Added diabetic care plan for students with diabetes
  • Mentioned the board’s policy in the assault, battery, fighting, harassing/bullying and hazing section
  • Amended ID section to require students to wear student ID at all times at school
  • In the theft, extortion or vandalism section,  the board’s policy on student’s paying restitution is now included
  • Updated information about Student Services Teams
  • Added board’s policy on Least Restrictive Environment
