Superintendent Dr. Lisa Hichens made the announcement on the School District 101 website Sunday.
"Due to the hazardous conditions created by extreme temperatures, Batavia Public School District is canceling school for Monday, Jan. 6," Hichens said. "We were looking forward to welcoming back the students and staff after the winter break, but we made this decision with student safety in mind."
The School District has upgraded Messenger, the district's notification system.
"You are probably receiving this message in multiple formats," Hichens said. "With our new system, families have the option of selecting how they want to be informed about school news and closings.
"Please log in to PowerSchool to personalize your settings and select the delivery methods that work best for your family."
