Friends Remember Lyn Gilbert After Graduation

Friends share their memories of Lyn and how they are coping with her death.

Bronson Burke smiled on Friday as he recalled a story he told at Lyn Gilbert's memorial service.

Burke and Lyn's brother Adam came home one night looking for a late snack, macaroni and cheese. Lyn crept downstairs to see Burke making the dish. 

“Can I have some?” she asked, complimenting Burke on his macaroni and cheese.

“I’ve never gotten a compliment on my cooking ... Lyn was there and always commenting and giving good encouragements,” Burke said after the Batavia High School graduation on Friday night. “She always had good things to say. She was a very positive person.”

Lyn’s life was cut short after she died when her in unincorporated Blackberry Township. Investigators are still trying to determine the .

“It was horrible what happened, but she’s in a better place now,” said Matt Hughes, a friend of Lyn who has known her for about six years. “We’ll all meet up someday.”

Lyn constantly looked out for her friends and family. When Lyn saw Hughes smoking she immediately grabbed his pack of cigarettes and crushed them up.

Hughes said on Friday that he will always remember Lyn’s beautiful and never-ending smile.

“I hold in the sadness because that’s not something Lyn would have wanted," Burke said. "She was too bright of a person, I never saw Lyn cry or upset.”
