Batavia High School Rededication and Open House Held Sunday

Residents were invited to view the latest additions to the school, including the fieldhouse, Batavia Fine Arts Centre and the new BATV studios.

Batavia school officials wanted to show you exactly what they did with your referendum dollars.

The rededication and open house took place Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. There was self-guided tours running throughout the school and a formal rededication ceremony at 3 p.m. in the .

Residents were also able to see the and new BATV studios during the tour.

The addition and expansion of the school is the result of an April 17, 2007 ballot measure—Batavia residents voted in favor of a $75 million referendum for .

Batavia High School has seen more than $60 million of those dollars for expansion and remodeling, according to an online message from the school.

"Now that construction at the high school is coming to a close, it is time to show our appreciation to the community," the message said.

The fieldhouse opened earlier this year to student use. Residents, students and faculty to finally see the new facilities opened.

That same excitement applied to the Batavia Fine Arts Centre. There were before the Centre was finished and formally opened in August. Events that have been held since the opening include .

The school will present their full production of Beauty and the Beast at the Centre during Nov. 3-6.

BATV's Studio Upgrade

Batavia Access Television's open house will run alongside the school's open house. Residents can expect to see the following items, according to batv.us:

  • Broadcast-quality cameras
  • Green screen
  • Full lighting and audio systems
  • New live production system

Visitors can participate in hands-on activities, nonprofits can record a 30-second public service announcement and Boy or Girl Scout troops can earn a merit badge. Residents can also learn more about becoming a production crew member on future BATV programs.
