River Street Open Again in Batavia

Get a closer look at the brick pavers and the polished look in these photos.

One of Batavia's prized downtown streets is open again to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

River Street reopened earlier this month with a new look and feel.

The public is invited to join City officials on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM on River and State Street for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Guests are then encouraged to dine downtown and join the community on the Batavia Riverwalk at 5:30 PM for the Annual Celebration of Lights presented by the Batavia Park District.

River Street is the first street in a series of streetscape projects to take place in the downtown over the next several years.  The City’s streetscape projects include upgrading all underground utilities, infrastructure improvements, as well as street improvements including trash receptacles, benches and drinking fountains. On River Street the improvements included creating a curbless street allowing for a shared pedestrian and vehicular space.

The City will work with Batavia MainStreet, River Street Businesses and the Streetscape Committee to host a grand opening celebration on River Street in late spring 2013 when all the final touches, including final gates, arches and plantings, will be in place.
