Expect a Peak Alert Every Day This Week in Batavia

Expect Peak Alerts from Monday through Friday this week in Batavia.

The city of Batavia called a Peak Alert for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, July 15, and with the hot weather forecast for the balance of the week, Batavia residents should expect more to come.

During the Peak Alert time period, officials are asking residents to postpone electric use. Temperatures were expected to get to 90 degrees Monday, with heat indices nearing 100 degrees.

Monday had a few thunderstorms are possible, but didn't cool things down for very long. There also was an Air Quality Action Day for Lake and Porter counties in Indiana on Monday, so it was not a day to be outside doing strenuous activity.

From here, it just gets hotter, with highs of 90 or more Tuesday through Friday. The Peak Alert hours may vary, but they're likely to be at least as long as Monday's 1 p.m to 6 p.m. time period.

"We are expecting alerts the rest of the week," Batavia Electric Superintendent Robert Rogde said.

During the peak alert, the city is asking residents to raise thermostat a couple degree if you're running air conditioning—or turn it off altogether.

"You might want to cool your house down over night and keep the shades closed during the day. The price of power has been going down at night, so it OK to use more power at night. Any power you can use at night instead of during the day helps all of us," Rogde said.
