Methane Update: Officials Continue Plan to Vacuum Gas Back To Landfill

A line of wells will be installed across the south boundary of the Midway landfill, so the methane can be piped back.

Here is the latest update on the methane issue along Fabyan Parkway, as posted on the website on Thursday afternoon:

Snow conditions should not present a significant delay to ongoing work as all sites have been marked.

The 22 utility openings in and around the Highlands were not tested today, but will be tomorrow. They have not shown any methane from the start.

The 2 probes south of Fabyan that have shown methane still do, but at stable, consistent levels as in the past. The probe at Olympic and Kingsland still measures nothing.

No methane was detected in the remaining 8 monitoring probes located south of Fabyan Parkway.

3 wells north of Fabyan are still under vacuum. 2 of them are drawing some methane, the other, none. More wells north of Fabyan continue to be drilled to ultimately form a line of wells across the south boundary of Midway and pipe the methane into the existing methane facility.

Work continues on installation of the permanent connection point and piping system with the excavation of the sump near the tie-in along the 17th fairway of the golf course. There is 45' of trench open for piping at this point.

No calls have been received by the hot line, Waste Management corporate or any of the governments involved. Nothing occurred in the last 24 hours that would slow progress on the planned work.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding in this matter. Unless there is some development, the next update is expected today, Jan. 13.
