Guess How Many Refuse Stickers Were Sold in Batavia Last Year

The city of Batavia is joining Geneva this year in an effort to find the best possible garbage-collection deal. How many stickers and tons of garbage did Batavia dispose of in 2012? Click below to find out.

In 2012, folks in the city of Batavia disposed of:

  • 5,479 tons of garbage
  • 4,351 tons of recycle products
  • 1,646 tons of yard waste

We bought and used:

  • 25,000 yard waste stickers 
  • 38,013 yard waste bags 
  • 230,500 refuse stickers 

Now, Batavia is teaming up with the city of Geneva to look at how to get rid of all that stuff for the next five years.

Batavia is coming to an end of its contract with Advanced Disposal/Veolia. The price for a lavendar (full-size) sticker is $3.11.

The cities of Geneva and Batavia are working together to seek bids for their respective solid waste services program. Bidders have until 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, when all bids for both communities will be publicly opened and read aloud at the City Hall in the City of Geneva, 22 S. First St., Geneva.

After the bids, it could end up that each community goes with a different bidder, but the hope is that the lowest bid will some sort of combo package that results in lower rates due to the economy of scale.

The contract would go from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2018.

Reminders

For refuse/trash, residents may use:

  • Their own plastic or metal reusable container with handles, no larger than 32 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight; refuse sticker attached to handle
  • One disposable plastic or paper bag, box, or carton no larger than 32 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight; refuse sticker attached to container or bag
  • 35-gallon or 65-gallon refuse cart (rented from Advanced Disposal/Veolia only) - call 630-587-8282

For yard waste, residents may use:

  • Advanced Disposal/Veolia logo brown paper kraft bag, no more than 50 pounds in weight; sticker not necessary
  • Generic, biodegradable, two-ply, wet-strength, kraft paper bag, no more than 33 gallons in capacity and 50 pounds in weight; attach a yard waste sticker
  • Their own plastic or metal reusable container with handles, no larger than 32 gallons in capacity or 50 pounds in weight; can must be clearly labeled “yard waste” on the front; attach a yard waste sticker to handle

For recycling, residents may use:

  • Advanced Disposal/Veolia 18-gallon recycling bin
  • 65-gallon recycling cart (rented from Advanced Disposal/Veolia only for $3/month) - call 630-587-8282
