Batavia residents can expect to see a significant increase in their monthly electric bills after the Batavia City Council approved a 10 percent electric rate increase and a nearly $7 increase to fixed customer fees.
The Beacon News reports the monthly fixed customer fee is going up from $3.59 to $10. City officials indicated monthly rates could go up between $8 and $21 for the average household.
The last time the city saw a rate increase was in 2008.
The article also states the city decided to levelize electric rates throughout the year, replacing the four-month summer-winter rate system.
