Batavia Electric Peak Alert Until 6 p.m. Today

Cut back on electricity if possible this afternoon.

The City of Batavia has issued an electric peak alert for today, Thursday, Sept. 1, until 6 p.m.

"I thought we were done for the year, but it looks like we have one or two alerts left," said Robert Rogde, Batavia's electric superintendent.

Officials hope to avoid overuse of electricity during peak afternoon times.

Rogde suggests raising your thermostat a couple of degrees if you are still using your air conditioning today, so it doesn't kick on for low temperatures.

Cool your house down overnight and keep the shade closed during the day when possible. The price of electric power has been going down at night, so it's OK to use more power at night, Rodge said.

Any power you can use at night instead of during the day helps all of us, he said in the alert.
