Watch For Batavia Foot Traffic Thursday With Fox and Turkey Run

Expect to wait for race participants here and there in Batavia's downtown and northwest areas on Thanksgiving morning. Here are the details.

The 2011 Fox and Turkey Run will be coming back to town this week on Thanksgiving Day morning, Thursday, November 24, 2011.

There will be a number of temporary traffic interruptions on the northwest side the City of Batavia, the most significant of which will be a runner crossing at the intersection of Batavia Avenue (Route 31) and Houston St.

Houston St will also be closed between Island Ave and Water St during the entirety of the event. The event begins promptly at 8 a.m. and will end at about 10 a.m.

It will begin with a 1 mile youth run as well as an additional 4 mile adult run that will be conducted immediately following at 9:00 a.m. To the extent possible, this is an “open road” event, and participants have been instructed accordingly. Roads will remain open for vehicle passage with temporary and minor interruptions as participants make their way through the course.

Youth 1 Mile - Start at Batavia Municipal Center (Houston St). W on Houston St to Lincoln. N on Lincoln to Illinois. W on Illinois to Jefferson. S on Jefferson to Houston. E on Houston back to Municipal Center. Adult 4 Mile - Start at Batavia Municipal Center (Houston St). W on Houston St. to Mallory. N on Mallory to Maple. W on Maple to Blackhawk. N on Blackhawk to Winnebago. E on Winnebago to Britta. Continue E to Van Nortwick. S on Van Nortwick to Shabbona. W on Shabbona to Cypress. S on Cypress to Maple. E on Maple to Republic. S on Republic to Houston. E on Houston back to Municipal Center.
Motorists, please be prepared to encounter increased pedestrian/runner traffic on the following main and arterial streets as well as in the downtown area during the hours of 7:30-10:30 am: Each road/intersection affected will be staffed by public safety employees and/or race volunteers and vehicular traffic will be allowed to pass whenever it is safe to do so.
